Apparently they are going to roll out a lot of these is South Australia
The idea is to get them installed quickly to allow electric cars to be used for outer city driving .
You can load 8 of them on a self loading truck and have them delivered & running in a single day ,
As against a week to do a hard wired installation .
Then there is the problem of where to put them because you can spend a fortune putting in an electric filling station only to find the next generation of vehicles get an extra 100 miles so every one drives right past
There is a plan to run electric tour busses to out back tourist locations aimed at environmentally conscious tourists , should we ever allow any one into the country again .
It costs around $ 20,000 to set up a single charging station at an existing petrol station, provided that it has a good enough power supply .
While OZ has the biggest power grid on the planet, there are lots of places that are off grid so the whole town is probably on solar with back up diesel generator electricity .
There is also a zinc / bromine battery version that can be solar or wind powered but they need some sort of internet connection which again down here is non existant when you get a couple of hundred miles from the centre of the city .
After the BSA National Rally last year we drove up to Lake Eyre then back to Sydney via Broken Hill.
Lots of places we stopped at closed around midnight when the town turned the generators off
