Fuel gauge sending unit is shot.
Sending unit is part of the fuel pump in tank assembly.
Dealer tells me it is no longer available.
That I must buy new tank, fuel pump and gauge sending unit which is separate from fuel pump assembly.
Is there a way around this?

Maybe find a machine that doesn't have such an elaborate fuel system or pay the dealer??

If the pump is working then ignore the gauge .
You should have a rough idea about how much you use per mow and put that in every time you come back or just keep the tank full.
If your lawn is so big it requires multi tank fills use the timer on your cell phone to warn you to refill or take a small bottle of fuel with you when you mow so you can get back to refil.

If you have an angled fuel tank filler cap the part number appears to be AM136610 and E Bay has them for $80.00 to $85.00 If it is the straight filler the number is AM 132755 and that appears to be the one that takes all the other parts and is very expensive. Keep watching E Bay or try to find a salvage tractor place online and you could luck out. Good Luck and welcome to the monopoly called John Deere!
