I've always done it, but I wonder if it's overkill?

Thoughts!

Thanks!

As fuel filters go, I don't think it is over kill. Seems to be that there is more crap coming out of gas station pumps.
When my gas cans are almost empty, I look inside the can and always see particles on the bottom of the can (The red plastic ones I use)
I always make sure to clean them out before I refill them and yet the next time I look in there.... there is some crap in there.
Changing fuel filters to often is better than not enough. And, as you probably know, lots of threads are fuel related...

Every 100 hours for me.

I use the glass ones and just change the insert.

Replacing fuel filters, oil filters, air filters often is never overkill no matter what they cost. It's always cheaper to replace them than an engine.

Thanks everyone for your input!

Fortunately, I ALWAYS change filters when the manual says too, but I often wondered if it was overkill.

Now, I know better!!

I am seeing the same particles in my red plastic gas cans too.. It's the P4 Gas we get these days, even tho I only use 100% gas..

Here's a good question - Why do the Toro lawn mowers have air filters, but no fuel filters, but the Toro single stage snow blowers have no air filters, but they have fuel filters?

Two-stage snow throwers from Troy Bilt and Ariens also do not have air filters (no dust in the snow) but they also do not have fuel filters, either.

Since when doesn't Toro mowers have fuel Filters? All mine do..

I have two 22" Personal Pace mowers with Tecumseh 6.5, one from 2004 and one from 2007, and neither of them have fuel filters. My Father also has a 2009 Toro Personal Pace with a 6.5 B&S and it too does not have a fuel filter!

To be honest, I am thinking about just installing a male/male pipe nipple in place of the fuel filters on the snow blowers. One of the filters has not been changed in 9 years, as it is still the original from 2005!

My proline didn't come with a fuel filter.... Kawi engine had a shut off which I replaced with filter

The only mowers I have seen with a shut off were the two Honda mowers that my father owned years back. One of them was a really old 1980s model.

The newer Honda was a Harmony. Not sure why he sold it to get the Toro, but either way, he liked the Toro better!

Also my Ariens 2-stage snow blower has a shut off but no filter, and the Troy Bilt 2-stage snow blower has neither.

Both Toro single stage snow blowers have filters. I acquired some 1/4" male/male barb fittings to remove the filters.

Ethanol in the gasoline will soften the plastic fuel filters in time. I recommend replacing them periodically as recommended in your manuals.
When adding a fuel filter to an engine that doesn't have one, bear in mind that there are different fuel filters for gravity feed and fuel pump equipped engines, don't mix them up.
Many snow blower engines don't have air filters as they can get plugged with snow or get wet from snow and cause airflow and carb icing problems.

As I mentioned, the filter in my father's CCR 3650 is original from 2005.

Good point about the evil Ethanol.
