FS55 will only start if i remove the air filter

I have even cut the filter to half its thickness but the weedwacker will only start, and run perfectly, if the filter screen is removed.
Any one have an idea why this is happening.

I really don't know the reason why, but I have found that working on small 2 cycle scooters or mopeds if the air cleaner isn't OEM they wouldn't run. Now this being said I would take the same thing would be true for most small 2 cycle engines like string trimmers. I think when they are built they are set up to have a some air back pressure to run or run at full power. The same holds true for a lot of small engines as they need a muffler to run right also. I will say maybe some engine designer engineer on this forum can give us a better answer on this subject???? Then after I am told I got a feeling I still wouldn't understand.

Take a 5/8 or 16mm socket and remove the tube/port on the muffler and try running. See if it is clogged or carboned up.

If the port was clogged would the engine not run at all?
As i mentioned in my first post, the engine starts immediately and runs perfectly with the air filter screen removed.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with my FS 45. The spark arrestor on the muffler was clogged with carbon build up. After removing and cleaning, it ran like new. If needed, you can get OEM replacements at the dealer and they don't cost too much.

I now remove and clean it a few times each season. Hope this helps

The good ole Ryobi did not like a dirty foam filter (RIP). It would start hard. Cleaned with Tide and hot water, dry, squeeze engine oil through it. Voila! Happy engine.

Guys I can see nothing on my FS55 RC that would require a 16mm socket to remove.

This piece of equipment has very little time on it so I doubt that any thing is clogged.

It doesn't take but a short time for a whole multitude of bugs to plant eggs in that tube.

Can you describe what led up to this condition?

I.E.

It has ran great all summer but...........

It was running great, but then........

It ran great, then my brother-in-law.......

It has never run good since I bought it...........

I have been fiddling with the carb screws for a week before.......
