FS55 will only start if i remove the air filter

I have even cut the filter to half its thickness but the weedwacker will only start, and run perfectly, if the filter screen is removed.
Any one have an idea why this is happening.

BTW...... How in the heck did you cut the filter to 1/2 it's thickness? It is @ 3/16" thick as it is????

Are you just toying with us? I am getting that fuzzy feeling that you are here for just some fun.......

Let us see a pic of the filter sliced to 3/32", just for fun.

I'm serious. I managed to slice the filter in 2 using a 3inch breakaway blade (it wasn't easy) splitfilter.jpg

The good ole Ryobi did not like a dirty foam filter (RIP). It would start hard. Cleaned with Tide and hot water, dry, squeeze engine oil through it. Voila! Happy engine.

Motoman, it looks like your suggestion did the trick. Yesterday I washes the air filter with and this morning the unit started after 4 pulls.
