Engine shut off loud rattle

I have a 2016 Hustler Raptor SD 54 Kohler 7000, Spec PS-KT740-3042 725cc, Serial 4601931503 mower, manufacture 03/2016 SN 934604, Hydro-Gear Model ZH-MCBB-3EMC-3PXX SN 6059D90011. When I shut the engine off, I hear a loud rattle around the engine or transmission. It sounds like there's play in the engine or somethings loose. It's very loud and lasts a couple of seconds. It doesn't sound like a loose bolt, but like the engine piston, etc. I believe it's gotten worse over the past few weeks. I'm worried it's something in the engine or transmission. But the engine runs good, no rattles from the engine or transmission when it's running. I change the engine oil once or twice a season with synthetic and the transmission with synthetic about 350 hours ago. I'm going to change the transmission oil next weekend. Mower has 450 hours. I couldn't find a thread that already discussed this symptom. Please help me.Thanks!!!!

It would help if you would of given us the engine information. Is this a Briggs, Kohler, Kawasaki, Honda or a 4 cylinder ford. Could also be an issue with the electric pto clattering on shutdown.

I worked on one and found the drive motors were missing some bolts, throwing belts and stuff, maybe look at your mounting hardware in that area

And it would not hurt to give the actual model number of the mower (from serial tag). As Bertrrr mention there are thing that need to be looked related to drives. One thing the little two inch idler pulley tends to go bad bearing wise due it being over speed-ed by Hustler. Another is many of the Raptor tends to have loose or missing drive screws or simple have broken the mounting brackets. As mention by IL even the PTO clutch could be causing the rattle.

So it might be best the raise the mower rear end up and someone else shut the engine down while you looking and listening as to try to pin point the noise area.

Thanks everyone. StarTech what do you mean with "loose or missing drive screws." Today I'll check for loose bolts and have someone turn off the mower while I have it jacked up to see if I can narrow down the sound.​

The hex head bolts are actually hex head screws. Just using the correct terms. Its just that over the years people started calling them bolts. So many types of screws out there is probably they started this to cut on the confusion what someone wanted.

Oh well off to get a couple shots that the docs insists on me getting.

A bolt is meant to be used with a nut, and it is tightened by torquing the nut. A screw is designed to be used in either a preformed or threaded hole, or it is capable of forming its own threaded hole. A screw is designed to be tightened by torquing the head.They are both threaded fixings and have a head for tightening the fastener but there is more to it than that. The most obvious way of differentiating between a bolt and a screw is that a bolt is not usually threaded all the way along its shank as it has a plain portion. A screw, however, is threaded fully to the head

Check engine mounting bolts. Torque and Loctite as needed.
