I had to edge a customers garden and I used a half moon edger. I finished it but it doesn't look neat because contour isnt smooth. There are Sharp edges and I tried to be more careful but i couldnt get it to really look professional. How can I fix it?

I'm not real sure what it is you are asking here? Is it that you're trying to straighten and smooth out the edges on the garden? If so why not just use an edger the same as you would on a sidewalk or flower bed and cut the edges.

I had to edge the garden so the grass wouldnt grow into the beds and the beds would look defined. I dug and I didn't do that bad but it doesn't look as professional as when other landscapers do it. Maybe I can use my trimmer to define the edges more?

Yeah that would work. A trimmer helps to get a deep edge quickly. I like holding the trimmer sideways to start the edge, but then I sometimes hold it upside down if I just need to redefine the edge. But if you are edging along the road with a trimmer sometimes it gets jammed if you try to do it upside down from hitting the hard concrete.

You can use a trimmer but that is not what it's designed to do it tears the grass instead of cutting the grass. There a couple of pieces of equipment that can be used, like an edger or a bed redefiner and both would do you a better job than the trimmer. We use a definer to re-define or shape the bed and then edge weekly to give beds a real sharp fine cut look.

When I use the trimmer it is more to deepen the edge than to create one, so I am not really cutting much grass, more dirt. It is just to deepen the edge and make the cut straighter.

The chief gardener (wife) had me cut "victorian" edges around the beds. They are cut deep with a spade. I maintain them with a trimmer at 90 degrees. The trimmer requires a lot of patience when being abused like this. The earth and rock contact pull the lines too tight and requires frequent spool removal (bump head) and loosing/rewrap. No?
