I have an Echo PB-500T backpack leaf blower. It will start right up and run fine for about 20 seconds then start to die out. I can keep it running but it will not rev high at all. If i pull in the trigger all the way it will sputter out. And if I try to slowly hit the trigger it will rev up a little then start to die out. Any idea what this is?

I looked today and it looks like from the top of the tank there is 2 tubes going in. Then when I look in the tank One tube goes to the bottom of the tank. On the other one there is no tube. Its just a little metal piece at the top. Should there be two tubes going to the bottom of the tank?

Here are a couple video clips... Fuel Line Repair on Echo Grass trimmer - YouTube
and Replacing the Fuel Lines on the Echo PB 251 - YouTube
Yours will be very similar... :smile:KennyV

So do you think the problem I'm having is caused by bad fuel lines?

It could be... or plugged filter... the fuel lines are a common problem, so not a bad thing to check when looking into fuel related problems... :smile:KennyV

My blower did the same thing. Was the filter.

You can replace the filter and lines for about $5
The kit even comes with a handy tool to help feed the lines threw the holes in the tank.

No only one line goes to the bottom. One is pick up :licking:tube with filter and the other is:ashamed: return tube. But I hope this helps I posted it on another thread here.
"Something could be wrong with your fuel line. I had a old weed eater that would do that and it was because of me letting people use it and they would but the gas back in it for the use of the machine. But what was wrong is the cheap 87 octane gas that was being but in it was making the fuel line soft and it would close up on its self. After I started using higher octane fuel and running oil with stabilizers in them it stopped."

If the fuel lines and filter looks ok check the screen in the carb for debris.sounds like that's where your problem is.it will be under the carb cover held down with one or two screws.

A couple of questions. How old is the unit and any idea how many hours.

I think it was bought sometime around the beginning of 2011. I have no idea how many hours it has. We use it for spring/Fall cleanups and just to blow clippings off of driveways in the summer.

Ok, Try checking the spark arresting screen on the muffler first before you spend money on filters and lines, it not going to cost you anything. Use the process of elimination, cheapest things first. Your arrestor could be a flat screen on the side of the muffler or a round tubular screen through the side that you can just pull with a pair of pliers. Clean it with a wire brush and a air compressor if available. A plugged spark arresting screen will make the machine do exactly what you're describing.

Yea I saw some at Lowe's today. Thank you though. The hoses just seem smaller then what is in most equipment I have.

I'd stay with OEM then you know you're working with the right stuff. It will pay for itself in the long run.
