Dropped its oil after every session after parked for ten minutes. No leak atop it.
Flipped it and I took it apart from the bottom, observing that the oil seal looked good from that view. When I gently pulled the bottom section from the top, I felt a bit of resistance, which surprised me, and had thought mebbe there was a spring I didn't know about. The old gasket was indeed broken with a crack across the edge. It was thin black rubber, 1/64" thick. I had a sheet of 1/32" McCord gasket, so traced out a gasket and cleaned edges and all that and put it back together, but... there wasn't a gear connection for the governor to be in play. The oil pump was a sleeve that shot out from when the piston rotates, so I understand that and realize thet that shall keep the oil pumping around. I think mebbe had I removed the flywheel, I would have access to look inside the engine and mebbe see how a linkage wire is supposed to hook onto the governor, but mebbe that happened naturally when the two halves came together, 'cause I examined the thing and couldn't discern how that fit. Darned if I can get a good view of it with a parts' diagram, nor online websites. The rotary lawn mower 21" multi-cut model # is 944.362640 but the tecumseh engine model # is 143.026202.
Any advice much appreciated. Great website here. Thanks. M 14/06/25
