The manual I found for the Confidant zt710-740 says there is a release. The zt740 is a 25hp Confidant, which matches the motor, though I don't have the model off the motor. If nothing else, when I do the valves, I can check for the release function. I found several saying it could be valve adjustment, compression release, or valve guide.

I don't have it. I thought I had a picture with it, but I don't. I will get it next Saturday when I go cut grass. If you zoom in, it looks like it says ZT740.

Is it on one of the smaller ones? The Kohler manual I found covers 710-740, and mentions it, but does not specify models for the ACR. I couldn't find a manual on the 740, just one for the group. My plan regardless is to adjust the valves and go from there. Thanks again.

Google and look at the images of the 32 010 07-S Camshaft.

You need a 300 CCA battery and the valves should be adjusted every 400 hours (0.004 - 0.006).

I'll check the battery. It's maybe 2 years old, don't know CCA. Starter was replaced around a year ago when it would not start at all. It has done this for a while, but would usually start after a couple tries. It has gotten worse. Adjusting the valves maybe next week, though that's a cutting week. I've been cutting this property with this mower for around 3 years, and the valves haven't been touched. Thanks again guys
