Deckson friction drive cone

I have a good but old Deckson self propelled slasher/ mower that uses a friction drive cone that drives on a metal disk on rear axle similar to a Cox I have been told. New motor had only done a few hours work before the drive cone fell to bits. Any ideas on how to locate another drive cone as they are no longer available in Australia. Or maybe some one knows what material they were made from and whether you can still buy it. Regards Blue

WELCOME to LMF...

When I first read your post, I was thinking you needed the 'cone drive' system for a Dixon ... But that is a ZTR type mower... I realize you are looking for Deckson cone drive... I have not seen that manufacturer, It may be unique to your area....
Post some pictures if you will, I'd like to see what it is... :smile:KennyV

Hey Blue, did you end up finding a cone for your slasher? I have an old John Deck & Sons ride-on (same co. as Deckson) in need of a drive cone. It has a 8hp Briggs motor with a 1" keyed shaft.

Otherwise, is there any way to recondition these cones?
Cheers,
Bon

Hi Blue.

Did you find that elusive friction drive? I stumbled across this site in my ramblings.
Guess what? I have one, new in the original wax paper envelope. Would you like it?
My old machine has long gone to the big paddock in the sky (fantastic, no diff, would outclimb the Landcruiser on the bush). I recently found the drive in the bottom drawer.
I have jury rigged them with bolted and epoxied lamainates of MDF fibreboard and aluminium sheet like the Orient Buck Board drive but the real thing lasts longer - but it contains Asbestos so beware!.

Cheers,
Oldpa.

Hi Oldpa,
Do you still have that drive cone available? I'm still interested in getting this old girl going.
Cheers
