I have a cub cadet LTX1040 riding mower. I was wondering if a oil filter other than a Khroler filter can be used ? It is a 2014 model

Take the number off the old filter and any auto parts store will sell you a filter. They will have a chart to cross the part number over. Myself I use Baldwin or NAPA oil filters on everything.

If that is the Kohler Courage single cylinder just buy the Kohler filter for it. They do not cost that much extra.

I fit aftermarket lawn mower filters on all jobs unless a customer specifies a genuine one, they are paying the bill.
Mower filters do not diretly interchange with car filters they are designed to run at much lower volumes & pressures and usually are a far coarser mesh size than auto filters.
ompanies like Stens & Rotary do a full line of mower filters , they go about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of genuine filters and won't void the warrantee.
Usually I fit either Stens or Gripskie filters, around 200 /pa and never had a problem originating from them.
Stens claim they are OEM sourced & Gripskies sell either local made or rotary for some of the smaller volume runs.
Hydro filters are a different matter and usually I go genuine on them.
While there has only been 3 warrantee jobson trannies, 3 is 3 too many when thy all got traced back to the aftermarket filter.
Most private use ride ons only ever get 1 replacement so it is not a big impost on the customer

Its a oil filter and all its job is filter the oil. In all the many years of repairs I have never come across a bad oil filter other then leaks from a bad installation. The manufacture designs the filter for engine. Nothing wrong with aftermarket filters. You will find Kohler doesn't make the filter other then putting there name on it. In my early years as a mechanic a oil filter was a option.
