Everybody who buys on CL or any used parts marketplace wants to haggle and get the best deal possible. Nature of the game. I do it myself when I buy something unless the seller already has a really good price. When I have something for sale I keep that in mind. Sometimes I'll set the price higher so the buyer can feel good about negotiating a better deal. Sometimes I'm in a hurry and just put the price I want. As mentioned it's the lowballers that waste time and make it less enjoyable. When somebody emails or texts a crazy low price before even asking a question or looking at the item I try to ignore it. Sometimes I just have to respond in a similar way. There are some sellers who just don't seem to have a good idea of how things work. There's somebody whos been posting the same HF tools here for almost a year. He's asking exactly what HF sells the tools for. Another guy here who seems to buy old mowers and resells them. Or trys to resell them. Nothing wrong with that... I do it too. But his prices are too high and he's been running the same ads for over a year now.

I never used to have that problem. I still don't much. I learned to recognize their emails now. They also use phones too. Don't answer calls from 661-748-0241. Be wary of 818 or 888 area code calls too.
I don't think you can stop it though.

I hate that about craigslist or anyplace you can buy used stuff. I don't want to haggle but I think people selling stuff list it at higher than what they really want so there is room to come down. I only respond to the ads that are asking what I want to pay and I don't try to haggle.

Or dont even post your phone number on the ad. Give it out later if the buyer sounds interested enough to buy it.

I don't mind posting my number on CL. My phone has a hangup button and a blocking feature and I've heard all the scams I think. Besides...it's business and business usually requires a phone.

Different strokes I guess. It's just generally done that way in my experience. Always has been. Besides... there is no set price for lawn equipment really. The price is usually arbitrary unless you want to use some online bluebook. Even then it isn't set in stone...age, condition, motivation etc.
The price is usually somewhere between what the seller wants and what the buyer is willing to pay. That guy I mentioned up there... what's the point in offering something for sale if you won't negotiate and set the price so high that you're still sitting on it a year later?

I find that most people price mowers to high CL they think they have something special. See adds all the time I paid $2500 two years ago only used it twice $2000. Well first off its two years old. Second if you used it only twice it is going to have more problems then if you put 500 hours on it.
Third your a liar.

When I list things and they offer less money without asking about it or come look at it. Most times I just tell them off.

Even on the Facebook groups if I see someone offer less without asking anything about I item I tell them off.

You have to know what you are looking at and what the fair price is.
