craftsman pro series 8400 loosing reverse

craftsman 8400 model 247.204450 Kohler Eng T-745. has all but lost reverse. Barely moves when trying to go in reverse. Forward is fine. What's the fix?

Check where the F-R control rod links to the arm on the transmission ( if it a hydro model ) as it wears oval over time
If it is a manual gearbox then it will be wear in the F-R bushes but they usually grate badly .

Was told that it was electric clutch which costs $400+

Some one is pulling your strings
Electric clutch controls the blades
Get under the mower and have a look
I double checked that it was what I thought it was and sure enough it is

grass packed so tight between frame and pedal rod. removed it. runs in reverse just fine.
