At the end of last Summer I completely rebuilt my 8 year-old 48 in. mower deck and found everything I needed simply by searching the Internet and comparing prices. By rebuilding the deck myself as opposed to buying a replacement from Sears, I saved over $300. Oh, and those $40 and $50 deck belts sold at Sears, Home Depot and Lowes, I bought on eBay for about $13 each. (Craftsman)

Nice job Carl. I bought my pulleys from Jack's smal engine (on the net) and have also gotten my belts from ebay. I have wondered though whether the quality is the same. My new belt I have coming is from tractor supply because I had heard good things about their kevlar belts. I also ordered a graphite deck paint that I am going to undercoat the deck with. Hope it works!!

Jimbo, here is the link. I have heard some good things about it so I thought while my mower is down waiting on parts I would coat it with this product.

My Craftsman 54" deck was either eating or throwing belts regular as well. I too found that the front pulley was tilted down. I adjusted and no more thrown or torn up belts. It is still eating spindle housings though. I've replaced 4, all three last year and starting over already this year with one broken.

I haven't much experience with this issue, I'd say check your tensioners, guides and such and I always use belt dressing on the pulleys rather than the belts, I've found it works just as good if not better.
Best of luck,
Jet
