Cold Weather Starting (home made primer port)

My JD starts a lot quicker in cold weather if a little gasoline is put in the carb throat. But to do that the 4 wing nut thumb screws need to be to removed expose the air filter and carburetor opening. So in the little iphone pic you can see the butt end of a tubless tire valve stem ( right side of pic ) with a 1/4 inch wooden dowel plug inserted. This is in the filter cover with the valve stem protruding down toward the carb throat. To prime, remove the wooden plug and inject an eye dropper of gasoline, replace the wooden plug and start. Takes 3-4 cranking revolutions rather than 15 or more. Yes, the choke has been adjusted numerous times. There, I fixed my hard starting JD.

Option B is to use Mobil 1 synthetic oil in your engine... Then your engine won't even know it is cold out.

They make a kit for diesel engines that just gives a small shot of starting fluid for cold weather starting that goes in the air intake. The newer starting fluids don't hurt your engine if you don't over do it.
