Carrying Trimmer Line

I saw a post about where you keep your precut trimmer line when trimming a large yard so you dont have to run to truck for more line. But I cant seem to find it. Keeping in my pocket doesnt work to good. I was thinking about keeping it on trimmer some how? Who's got the best way?

I have small a back pack I use to keep my trim line in with cutters, flat tip, Phillip head screw driver.

I like the spool type of trimmer heads. They run out so infrequently I don't even worry about carrying trimmer line around with me.
On the other hand I bought a new weedeater this summer. It came with a cast aluminum head that you just slip one small piece of trimmer line through. I guess I kind of like the mechanical simplicity of it, but it's a pain in the butt in use. I can't even make it around my yard without stopping to replace the line once or twice, And you end up wasting a sizable chunk of line each time too.
Anyway, I keep a bundle of pre cut pieces bent over with a rubber band around the ends. The loop part fits in my back pocket nicely.

I use the speed feed 400 it holds 30 feet of line. So 15 feet out of each eye.
We change line about every 75 yards.

I use a PVC pipe zip tied to my machines with pre cut pieces. I made mine with a screw top, got all the parts at Home Depot, cut the PVC longer then my pre cut lines, glued the bottom on, glued the threaded part on the pipe, zip tied the pipe to the handle, filled the pipe with about 50 pre cut pieces, screwed to cap on.

What size properties are y'all trimming? Are y'all doing whole subdivisions, several houses in a row or large commercial accounts?

That's what it sounds like if their worried about carrying string with them instead of just going back to the truck.

Yeah wish I could get that many yards in a row haha

just pull 15-20' of line off the roll, roll it up again and put it in your back pocket.

I don't carry extra line with me and I never re-spool or fill when I'm working . The spool itself as Carscw said carry's 30ft and it will last for a day easy. If I do need line during the day I carry two spools loaded with line at the truck and it takes like 30 seconds to remove the empty and put a full spool in.

It's just makes sense and its so easy.

I do not know why people make things so complicated.

Did any of you read the post? Pre cut, PRE CUT. I did not read word spool anywhere in the OP. Bob E seems to understand what the guy is talking about. Not everyone has the same equipment. Reloading a spool is more complicated then loading a single line.

Actually I assumed when he said I saw a post about where you keep your per-cut trimmer line when trimming a large yard so you don't have to run to truck, he was removing it from a bulk spool of line, not using a fixed line trimmer head where you would us 8" pieces of pre-cut line.

I told him what I use and why. So he would know a easier and more productive way.

Using a head that takes pre cut pieces is a waste of time and line and money.

So now he knows to get a good bump head and a extra spool.

Go get the speed and feed bump head. All you need to do is cut some line 6 ft and stick in thru the hole and twist. About 30 seconds and back to trimming.

I do the same here with the two extra pre-wound spools. It takes no time and since I switched to Oregon Gatorline I have noticed I don't have to change spools out as often as I did with the Stihl line.

That gator line is good stuff, I use it on the Stihl 110 and your right I don't use as much of it as the stihl line.

I never used the gator line.

It's good stuff,, I use the .105 in the 110 Stihl and it cuts about everything and anything I've come across. I've never used the .095.

I think I will try some this week.
Some .095 my trimmer won't sling the .105 as fast as it should.

I am still trying to get my wife to let me get a 110
She thinks it is to heavy.

calm down cool guy, I did read the post. I will say only a dork would that obviously still uses a plug in string trimmer would think its easier to reload a precut vs a spool. I simply push the line through and twist the head until its full. I remember the first time I trimmed a yard.

I'll mail you a pack of it, I don't like it. I have a pack that jw Thomas rep gave me that just keeps getting moved around. I tried one pack but its expensive and seems to break off right at the head and won't feed out

Is it the .095 that has the Kevlar string in the middle of it?

Listen to your wife cause she's right, it is heavy 12.1lbs I'd go to the RX100 it's the same size engine 31.4cc and it's 10.8 lbs, it will be my next.

That's the kind I use. It seems to hold up very well for me even when cutting thick grass. Until they come out with something I find better that's what I'm going to stay with. With it being to brittle for you have you tried soaking you string in water overnight? They say it makes it stronger.

Not really sure what's in the middle. Some seem to think it's a Kevlar some say it's a metal, I know It's a dual or co-polymer monofilament trimmer line. If you choose to buy it and use it the first thing you need to do is take the stuff home and fill up your sink with water and soak or submerge the stuff for at least 24 hours before spooling it on your trimmer and don't leave it in the sun.
