The big gear that the steering rod gear mates with. Has bushings one one top and one on the bottom. They are plastic. Take the center bolt out and you will see them.
Go to a mower shop and ask for brass mtd steering bushings.

I know you think you and your mower are unique, but Yardman's have been made for a very long time and there is more than 1 model Yardman which can be fitted with a 42" deck.
So telling us tou have a problem with your 42" yardman is about as much use as telling your lawn supplier you need something to fix your green grass.
There is also a bush on the bottom of the steering shaft that may sit above or under the gear you replaced you should have been oiling it every month which you obviously have not been doing or you would have been here several years ago enquiring about a sloppy shaft.
If it is an older model than Cars was thinking about there will be a steel bush on the fan gear pivot and yours will most likely be in 3 pieces as it is doubtful that you have ever lubricated it either and the hole will be flogged out oval requiring replacement of the fan gear, bush, and pivot bolt.

Odd that yours should get this bad strait up
Usually they will only steer left and the not right.

Whenever one of the gears is replaced, always replace both gears. if one is worn, the other is as well. and like the others said, replace the bushings. Also, keep them greased for longer life.

No sir I don't think I am unique just unknowledgeable in this area. 13an772G055 is the model number.

The most common reply is "what is your model number ?"
It is the first response to around 1/3 of all questions.

Thank you for posting it .
As you will see from the page I am sending you to bot Cars & ! were wrong as you have a different set up again as your model was a Walmart special.
In the diagram you need to replace the following item numbers to do the job properly.

17 ( if the hole is flogged out oval ) or weld & remake hole.

39 x 4 these are most likely also flogged out and a major contributor to excess load on the gear in the first place
