Sounds like you live in the middle of nowhere.

If you ask lowes or homedepot sales rep you can try it out. Just about every z in that price range is the same. You get differences like ride comfort and color. I agree with ric a 30" would do nicely there for you

Depends on what you count as the middle of knowhere. I'm sure people in Chicago would call it that. Population is ~200,000

If you take care of the mower type you mention, it will last a long time. If you abuse it, it won't. I have a friend who washed his mower after each use! He is extreme but his mower was running like a new one when he upgraded to a bigger one.

I don't go to that extreme but i do all the schedule maintenance and blow everything off with my gas blower after i get done using it.

Local Dealers

Unforunately the only local dealer i really have that works on lawn equipment is a place called BigR. They only Z-Turn i've ever seen is an extremely expensive Ferris 5100Z. I could ask them how much they could order a toro mustang for. They don't carry hustler. THe closest local dealer for Hustler is 40 minutes away and with the name "Heubner Tire" i don't think it gives me a good fealing that they know that much about mowers. They have a picture on their homepage but nothing else. All their specials and prices are just for tires :).

I don't have a truck so distance is a big factor. Maybe i could buy an extended warranty and it would make up for the fact because they have to pick up the mower for the extended warranty.

Well congrats ongetting the new place first..

This time of year many mower dealers can offer great deals to make room for the 2015 models coming.. (FYI) That's how I got my 2014 Toro SS 4260 w/Kawasaki engine. (which imo is a very well designed machine & NOT owned by MTD).

I personally don't like dealing with the big box stores, since they won't ever be able to fix anything should the need arise.. But that's me..

Not trying to sell you on a brand, you need to look at as many as you can, & test drive as many as possible. Then when you see something you really like, do some internet searching to see how others feel about that model..

Bear in mind when going to a V-twin engine, your gas comsumption is not gonna be anything like what you have now. But your mow times wil be greatly reduced, that's for sure.

Can you enlighten me on this? Wasn't toro bought about by MTD sometime back?

Just FYI Toro doesn't make a mustang mower. It's made by Troy-Bilt and owned by MTD that's why there sold at Lowes.

No Toro purchased Exmark sometime back. In 2007, the Toro low-end lawn and garden tractor product manufacturing was outsourced to MTD to be sold at Home depot and Big Box Stores. Toro owns about half a dozen different company's including LawnBoy and Hayter mowers. Your extremely expensive Ferris 5100Z is owned by Briggs & Stratton.

My Dealer said they would cover my battery & belts for 1 Year, the book says only 90 days..(just an example).

Buddy

Man OH Man that's really sticking his neck out there. Let's see, the tractor may set at least 6 months in the off season so that's an extra 90 days battery and belt warranty, and if that isn't in writing it isn't worth the paper it wasn't written on.

Obviously you haven't had good experiences with a reputable Dealer.. & we mow longer than 6 mos.

& That was just posted as an example of one of the many perks to being connected to a good Dealer vs Big box store..

I had to go to my dealer today. Starter rope broke on my toro, took it apart to shorten and make work. Spring is broke. I take it to my dealer he says he doesn't have a spring and he just loaned out there loaner starter (aparently they have this for the kawi fj180) but he ordered me a spring it'll be here Friday. He bent my broken spring to make it work replaced the rope all with no charge told me hell replace the spring for free to when it gets in. He told me to take it easy on the starter and he will see me Friday. Glad I bought my machine from him.
