Broadmoor throwing drive belt at transmission .

I have a new Broadmoor with less than 30 hours. When mowing under my gum trees it often throws the drive belt at the trans unit pulley. I think the deck is picking up Gum balls and they are being thrown under the drive belt causing it to roll off the pulley . Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?
Thankfully I have an old Sunstar that is tired but still gets the job done.

Yes I have had sweet gum balls break drive belt on my 2010 Broadmoor years ago, I now use an Unger pickup tool & a 5 gallon bucket before mowing, good exercise.
