I just bought a Husqvarna LT18542 lawn tractor, with a Briggs and Stratton ELS500 18.5HP motor. The mower was purchased from my neighbor who said it starts and runs fine until he starts mowing. He mows for about 5-10 minutes before the motor stalls and won't start again for a while. I'm on a business trip, so I quickly replaced the battery (his daughter left the headlights on), the fuel filter, air filter/screen and changed the oil and spark plug. When I get back, I plan on taking the carburetor out and giving it a through cleaning, and fresh gas in the tank as well. Any suggestions would be welcome, so I can hit the ground running when I get home.
AYP is American Yard Products division of FHP Frigidaire Home Products, division of EHP Electrolux Home Products, which as of a few years ago was split off of Electrolux Home products under the corporations name of Husqvarna So that is Husqvarna, poulan, poulan pro, dixon, peerless transaxle, mcculloch, redmax, jonsered, I know I missed a couple.
Because of the price pressures that are forcing down mower prices the factories usually specialise in a single product type thus gaing the greatest volume efficency.
Each factory have patients as to things like clutch mechanisms.
So if it has a pto lever on the right running in a candy cane shaped slot or a PTO lever to the left of the steering wheel then most likely it came out of the AYP factory regardless of which colour it is painted.
