Briggs and Stratton V twin electric info needed

I recently bought a 14hp V twin Briggs engine that originally came out of a Cub Cadet, model unknown, and I am putting it into my Snapper rear rider, more work than I thought it was going to be but love the challenge. The model# of the Briggs is 294777, type 0035-01. I need to know what the wires are for that stick out of this engine so I can make the proper connections for the new install.

The wiring of any briggs is determined by the size Alt/magnets/regulator.

So you need to describe the regulator, color of wires, etc.

Here is a chart.

When you say "stick out of this engine" do you mean the yellow one's from under the flywheel..?

Fish thanks for the info. Tried to print out but only got the left side of the page any ideas how to do this. Can do it off the computer screen but not handy when in my shop

I will take a picture later this morning and see if I can figure out how to post it and show what I mean

Thanks for the info. Going from a single cyl. B&S to this engine what wire would be hooked up to the anti after fire solenoid?

You will need to connect to a wire that is hot when the key is on and in the crank position, and not hot when the key is off, or you could just dis-able the solenoid.

This is typically labelled 'L' on the ignition switch. Sometimes this is on the spade terminal itself.

Problem is if your old engine did not have a carb solenoid your key switch may not have this function. Check it out and let us know.

What would I do to disable the solenoid? Will do what ever is easiest. Got to get this thing together.

No carb solenoid on the old engine

Unscrew it from the carb. If it has a black rubber puck on it, take it off. If the solenoid has a steel needle, clip it off with some dikes.

From what I see here, if there is no carb solenoid (no solenoid on old engines) there is nothing to do with the wire, just leave wire alone.

The new engine has a carb solenoid but the old engine didn't. The solenoid will have to be disabled.

Sorry I thought that I'd delete that post, when I saw it was wrong...!:confused2:

A little slow here still unclear as to what I have to do to disable the solenoid?

Follow Fish's instruction as per quote. They are spot on.

Look at the photo above to see what Fish is telling you to do. Your solenoid may look different but the modification is the same

Trying to up load a picture of my solenoid hope it works. Put new plugs in, carb kit, cleaned carb in tank with cleaner. Engine will run if I feed gas through the carb but will not continue to run. Seems to enough fuel getting to the carb. The fuel pump works. Have tried with the solenoid hooked up and with out hooking up. If I feed fuel through the carb the engine runs both ways, hooked and unhooked. At a loss gas does not seem to be getting through the carb.

Have you tested the solenoid off the engine yet, is it working..?

Is the solenoid tested with a volt meter, or an ohm meter? if so what should the readings be?

No it appears to be a Vanguard, and his engine has jets incorporated with his solenoid, and the replacement is $85 or so.

So we need to verify that this part is his problem.....

Just to know if the solenoid works or not, put the solenoid back on the carb, and set it up to run again. Run a wire from the solenoid to the positive battery terminal, and try to start.

And you should be able to hear and or feel it click when you put power to it.

I agree with fish find out if it is working before doing anything else.

I have done this. The only way it runs is if I feed gas through the carb. Do not hear or feel a click when hooked up. Will have to look at replacing and try that.
