lt fires straight away with ether sprayed down its throat and dies almost immediately. l've cleaned the carby right through, it looked spotless. Drained the tank, fresh fuel & confirmed it is flowing to the carby.
l popped off the valve cover and about 1/4 cup of oil flowed out (oil level is low but adequate for starting purposes) valves are working.........battery is now being charged again.......any suggestions? lt's a backup rider used for feral jobs but l hate having machines not going IMG_20230415_122214.jpg
 
Does it have a anti afterfire solenoid in the bowl? Make sure it's functioning properly.
You'll know it if it does as there will be 1 or 2 wires going to it on the carb.
 
As we do not have tier II pollution laws for mowers here yet you can snip the end of the valve off
However they rarely ever go bad.
In 11 years I have only ever replaced one .
What does happen is the ground wire to the solenoid breaks off at the terminal where it is bolted to the cooling shroud and some times the terminals in the plug itself go bad.
Usually they just clog up from corrosion, debris & varnish as they are at the very bottom of the float bowl.
Saturate it with carb cleaner then push pull the plunger to free it up.
In good condition a 9v transistor battery ( use the one in your voltmeter ) will be enough to make it retract fully and quickly
As the carb is off, hook the fuel line up to it , turn it sideways and blow compressed air through it ( high volume low pressure is best )
If the carb is working properly the throttle plate is wide open and the solenoid is open then you will see fuel mist blowing out the engine end of the carb .
With all of the rain we have had I would expect the solenoid be be rusted
When was the alst time you used your Lawn Boss and when did the problem start .
As we are coming to the end of the season varnish should not realy be a problem .

l've snipped off the plunger.......what should l do with the leads now? Does it make any difference if they are left open or closed circuit?
Mower hasn't been used for about 12 mths (l only use my gravely compact pro now).
Fuel has been replaced and carby cleaned - no sign of varnishing. l've only got a small motorbike battery in it so am waiting for it to charge again to see if its good to go
 
Just tie it up some where out of the way
From now on when you have done mowing slide the throttle down to the lowest setting count to 5 and turn the key off or you will get an after fire in the muffler.
They don't actul;y do any damage but as they can happen anywhere up to a minute after the engine has stopped it catches people unaware as they get off the mower then tey flinch & fall over .
