BLACK+DECKER announces YARDMASTER, a cordless outdoor power tool that can convert into multiple pieces of equipment. The YARDMASTER base unit ($149 MSRP) easily transforms into a string trimmer, pole hedge trimmer, or handheld hedge trimmer.

To use YARDMASTER, simply start with the base handle, choose the appropriate attachment for the task, and snap it into the base or add the extension pole for extra reach. Features of the string trimmer attachment, sold with the base unit, include an AFS Automatic Feed Spool® that easily and reliably feeds the trimmer line. The string trimmer’s wide 12-inch cut swath can trim a large amount of grass in a single pass. In addition, the string trimmer attachment is compatible with the separately sold 3in1 Removable Mower Deck ($40 MSRP). The deck converts the string trimmer into a lawn mower, a perfect solution for properties with limited storage and small lawns.

The included hedge trimmer attachment can be used as a handheld tool or with the extension pole. When used with the extension pole, homeowners can get up to nine feet of reach** to help conquer tall trimming tasks. The hedge trimmer attachment features an 18-inch dual action blade and the ability to cut branches up to 3/4 inch thick.

While the string trimmer, pole hedge trimmer, and handheld hedge trimmer are all included with the YARDMASTER base unit, there are additional attachments sold separately. These attachments include a blower, chainsaw, and the mower deck mentioned above. Both the chainsaw attachment ($69 MSRP) and blower attachment ($29 MSRP) can be used as handheld tools or with the extension pole for extended reach.

The introduction of YARDMASTER expands the robust 20V MAX* system of tools offered by BLACK+DECKER. This system gives homeowners the ability to use the same battery across numerous power tools and lawn and garden equipment.

BLACK+DECKER lawn and garden equipment requires no gasoline to use and delivers the power homeowners need. Available starting in late February 2018, the YARDMASTER cordless outdoor power tool will be sold at retailers nationwide and comes with a two year limited warranty and 30 day money-back guarantee.

I'm not sure I prefer this over a normal petrol chainsaw or electric chainsaw. It sounds good in theory but you normally find the all in one types of multi-tools don't perform great.

The multi tools have come on leaps and bounds over the years, i am sure one day electric chainsaws will be able to compete with the petrol chainsaws.

Way back when I was 14 Skill ( remember them ) brought out a one motor powers everything electric drill set
The drill motor plugged into a drill, orbital sander, jigsaw or 5" circular saw.

Back in those days electric motors were very expensive .
Still have the box it came in 52 years latter. power head died in no time flat and was not able to be either repaired nor replaced as Skill had deleted the product line.

Same story for this.
Good idea just so long as the powerhead will remain in production or be able to be repaired for a very long time.
Otherwise all that happens is you end up with a shed full off accessories that can not be used.
I have a lot of Ryobi power heads that can not be fixed in my junk pile and the owners were not happy because they then had to buy a new system just to get a new power head.
There is a Homelite been sitting down stairs for the same reason .
For home owners with very limited use battery powered chain saws and pole saws are a good idea just so long as they come with long term battery tenders so you can leave the battery in there for a few years and it would be good to go when needed.
Ask the technical department of any battery tool maker that question and watch them squirm worse than a politician found naked in a brothel during sitting hours .

Too many issues with battery yard tools. You never see any commercial lawn crews running battery gear. My main turn off is when the battery dies, not if but when, the replacement battery is nearly the same as a new tool. Like Bert was sating, they are paper weights once one part fails. The pawn shops around here are full of cordless drills and battery yard tools. Those toy EGO battery mowers are lined up like a military motor pool. Just not a fan.

I've never owned one other than CORDED electric hedge trimmers. Neighbors push those battery mowers to the curb all the time.
