Have a b&s 12 hp on an old dixon...1990. Occasionally gas will get into the oil in the crankcase. Shutting off the
gas from the tank when not in use helps. What causes this? tia

Most of the time I've found it to be a leaking needle and seat.
Not enough pressure to keep the needle on the seat etc. fuel
by passes the needle and seat in the carburetor.

Put a new carb kit in a few years ago. Just got it back from the shop where I'm sure they didn't

shut off the fuel for the month it sat there. They supposedly cleaned the carb and gas tank.

It had started losing power after about 1/2 hour of cutting. Bought a cheapy 20$ carb and put

it on. Ran like no ones business for about 1/2 hr, then started losing power. Mechanic says the

carb wasn't right. For a newer engine. I didn't want to spend the 130$ for another carb..walbro

and so when I got it back it was still cutting out. Put the original carb back on, which I had

cleaned up and it now runs great. Think cleaning the gas tank helped.
