Hello gentlemen , gentleladys and those in between , I just joined this site and what a wealth of information . As usual , when I join a forum I am on a quest for knowledge, in this case I was researching riding mowers and ended up with a Husqvarna YTH 24v48 . It seems to be really nice and I hope it lasts a long time . Im usually kind of of a strong silent type , I guess in computer lingo I would be more of a Lurker . There are a lot of knowledgeable folk here and it sure is nice to be able to use that experience to your advantage when searching for a spendy item like a riding mower . My finger is getting sore now , so I just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks .

You will be very happy with the YTH 24 48
Very strong mower that likes to cut tall thick grass. Does very good pulling a trailer or using a plow.

Ive read that this hydrostatic tranny doesn't hold up well to towing heavy loads or steep terrain . My lot is pretty hilly so Im a little worried , wish I could find more information on this subject . My mower has the Briggs engine , how does it compare to the Kohler . From everything I have read it seems that the Kawi motor is about best . The Briggs seems to have plenty of power and this thing CAN climb , just hope Im not stressing the tranny . Anyone know if the grass catcher attachment is worth of money ? I bought a set of mulching blades for back-up when its time to sharpen . How do you all jack this thing up when its time to work under the deck ? I already changed the oil for first time (at 5 hrs) , my back don't want to work on the ground no more so I WILL come up with some kind ramp set up to get this thing off the deck and onto a bench .

james, My Intek 24 also has good pulling power with about 500+ hours (after early problems). I should probably not brag, but never a problem with the trans. I do not jerk it around and have been gentle with fwd=rev changes. I regularly pull a star toothed fertilizer which is a load on the tranny and have also dragged a 200 lb balled tree on a plywood travis (sp?) over a block to plant it. I use a 3 bin grass catch setup and the moist weight of each bin full is near 40 lbs. The engine does NOT like the extra 120 lbs while cutting and oil temp rises very quickly. For that reason I think the catcher is better (but I'm too cheap and stubborn to change). I raise my 48 deck rig with an auto jack under the deck edge, one side at a time, and crawl under. That gyration is "old man yoga," and good for arthiritis.

Thanks for the info Motoman . My deck is the beefed up (strips of flat bar on edge) stamped one , not the heavy duty nice one . Are you saying to just put the High Lift under the edge of the deck to jack the whole unit up ? Has anyone raised and supported this thing by the front bumper to change blades , belts ect.FRESH MOWED LAWN 035.jpg

james, I'm sure others will chime in soon...My deck is stamped also. Maybe .080"? Anyway , at first I used a cherry picker and chain to lift the whole thing, but found the jack is best for me . My jack is a small "service jack" so it has a nice metal pad on it which I place under the outer radius. First I put a small piece of 1/2" plywood between the foot board just above the stamped housing covering the outer blade pulley to spread load when the jack moves the deck upward. I used to use a jack stand , but now do not for blade changing. I do leave the wheels on. Do not jiggle the tractor. Safety first if you feel jack stand is needed.

A cherry picker works good. Gets it up nice and high. I have used a jack on the deck and on the front bumper.
Now I use a come along on a rafter. A tree would work just as good.

When I am out working I just take the deck off. Takes less then 2 mins. And easy to change the blades then about 3 mins back on.
