5HP carb separation problem.

Hi from a n00by-n00b!
Our 2nd hand but newish B&G 5HP was playing silly buggers & ran initially for a good hour then decided it wanted to retire.
Changed everything recommended & it will only start with starting fluid so l'm going with fuel delivery fault, & am trying to separate the carb from the Gas tank.
l followed all instructions from a very helpful Canadian (?) Dony Boy 73 on Youtube & followed his instruction to the tee except I'm not wanting (as yet) to take the gas tank off & l just want to inspect the gas feed tube.
As l say, l removed all screws, bolts, linkages, gaskets & tried to just take the carb off the tank but it will only lift off about 1/4 to 1/2" & won't twist or lift anymore.

Any help or sarcasm gratefully accepted.

what's the model and type number? should be stamped around the spark plug area... probably 13xxxx-xxxxx-xx

Well you asked for it
The carb can not be removed from the fuel tank while both are attached to the engine.
One has to come off because the carb sits on a manifold tube so has to be pulled strait back to come off.
But the pick up tube inside the tank can not move far enough to allow the carb to clear the manifold

So THE CARB & TANK COME OFF AS A UNIT
That is the only way you can do it .
Further more it is near impossible to refit the gasket, diaphragm & spring with the tank on the engine.

It is only 2 bolts to take the tank off why the hell are you "not ready to take it off "

And further to that the throttle link will twist off easily leaving the governor spring(s) in place
IYour way requires removing the governor spring(s) which generally ends up with then being bent out of shape .

Actually you are wrong in saying "the carb cannot be removed without taking the gas tank off", it removed quite easily once l had figured out there was another longer bolt holding the carb to the tank, but hey, we're none of us as we'd like to think!
