I know Briggs has a CDI coil going down to 4 hp, but unsure if it will fit a 2 hp engine. If you supply us with the model, type and code numbers for your engine we can look up your original coil and see if a conversion is available. Numbers are located on the shroud, either on top or side.

If you are referring to upgrading to the Magnetron ignition system then PN 591420 should be the correct coil.

That’s what I figured, but my literature says down to 4 hp. That’s why I want to double check using his OEM original coil numbers.

The model no. is 80332, Type is 0474-02 and code is 78030203, again thanks for the help.

My info says a 591420 coil does not work on an engine with air vane governor, which according to the parts breakdown his engine has. From the engine numbers he posted his engine used two different points and condenser coils. #298274 and #295680. Before ordering any new coil I would make sure that the conversion coil can be used with your engine. Sure wish I had my old Briggs quick reference guide, as it contained a cross reference table for Briggs coils. Maybe some was smarter than me and didn’t throw theirs out.

Then he probably needs the 398593 coil that has air vane mounting stud but finding one that hasn't been superseded to the 591420 might be a problem.

The question is what is the difference
I just fitted GX coils to a GXV as GX were NLA
The difference is the new coil is 1/4" taller so mounting bolts had to be changed.
And as you both know some "different" coils just have longer or shorter HT leads

The Briggs engine question uses an air vane governor that is attached to the ignition coil. The original coils had stud for one hole air vane mounting plate to key into. The newer coils don't have this stud. So either the OP has to find a way drilling and mounting a screw for this second mouting hole for proper alignment or find a NOS Magnetron coil that has it.
