Well see if we can figure which stator the engine has then. As you will have amperage problems if it has a dual circuit version due to the 160 having an electric PTO clutch.

Brigg Alternator/Stator ID chart
Do you possibly have the numbers off the Agway, so we can possibly cross check against the tractor numbers.
Unfortunately I believe he already scrapped it. He has big ideas but doesn’t quite think anything through first.

If you are concerned with charging the battery what color and how many wires come out of the alternator, and what color is the plug. If you need a larger or smaller alternator thy are just about all the same size but they also us different size magnets.
The only other wire you need to be concerned with is the kill wire to the magneto coils. Briggs need to be grounded to kill the spark NO current must be fed to the coils, If the carburetor has an antifire solenoid on it it will need current to run.

Briggs are pretty simple:

Fuel solenoid, if equipped (grey?)
Ground the solenoid
Usually Black to kill wire
3 amp stator has a Red with a diode to charge the battery and an orange for the head lites (Maybe Backwards)
10 amp should have two wires (yellow or white) to the regulator and a single red for the charging and run circuits
There may be a jumper on the engine plug to get the red run wire to the head lites if no switch.
