Some tractors are set up to choke when the throttle is in full forward position. Once it starts, you must pull the throttle back to the run position. Could this be part of your issue?

That was my thought as well. I had 6.5 Briggs with the same issue, would start and run great but if you shut off, nothing. Then you had to wait a half hour and you were good to go! I finally put an old coil on that I had laying around, and works perfect.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this. I have seen new insulators with cracks in them. Check it closely, or use the old one. You're definitely getting air from somewhere.

If your blades don't line up tip to tip, and the blades are installed correctly, then the deck is probably warped. I've seen this a few times. I just shimed the spindle. The proper way would be to true up the deck, or replace it. Here's a video from "Teryl fixes it all"

Isn't there a one way diode that can go wrong on these systems? One of the symptoms are, no spark with the kill wire attached.

Just a note on doubling up the intake gasket... It doesn't work! What I do, is clean the plastic housing really good, put the gasket on and spread a little bit of rtv along the bottom edge where the air channel runs. Let it dry, and you're good to go.

I've seen that often, and have done it myself. When installing the starter housing, you have to align the tabs on the shroud. Just one of those things!

Make sure the engine mounting bolts are tight. I had a guy come by thinking his engine was about to blow up. It ended up being loose engine bolts.

Yes, my 20 year old briggs started leaking through the breather tube. It ran fine but made a mess. I pulled the breather of and found the gasket was split. I didn't have one so i used some rtv and no leak ever since.

Not all new filters come with pre-filters. Definitely use it!

I would I would pull the valve covers and check the clearance. Could have a bent push rod or a valve seat issue.
