Briggs & Stratton discontinues all Snapper & Simplicity tractors & zero turns - 9/8/2023

So that’s the end of Snapper lawn tractors & zero turns. Briggs & Stratton shut them down yesterday on negative sales growth. It’s likely they will license the name, so look forward to seeing $299 electric mowers made in China & sold in big box stores, etc. It’s disappointing, I used to use...

Just did 50hr oil change, some notes…

Just a note on this, Briggs calls for an initial oil change on this motor @ 8 hours which I did near the end of the first season in 2020. I changed the original filter as well, It came out clean. So far, the engine consumes almost zero oil.

Just did 50hr oil change, some notes…

It’s an Army thing, leaks are classified into three groups: Class 1 - damp gasket, attracts dirt. Class 2 - same as above with one or more drops of oil at bottom edge of joint. Class 3 - leak actively running oil out of joint. It’s hard to know who’s advice to trust, but I guess I’ll just stick...

Just did 50hr oil change, some notes…

Gents (ladies?) Just did my 50 hour oil change on my 2021 SPX with the 23hp Intek motor. Drained it using the side flex tube and it wasn’t as horrible as people make it out to be. You just need to warm the engine up first and then sit there and hold it while it drains. The oil that came out...

Who makes aftermarket pistons for B&S?

I don’t think that anyone promised my generation that capitalism would produce televisions in every shade of the rainbow and repair parts until doomsday. Capitalism does work though, the proof being that all the other systems that nations have tried aren’t any better at producing mower parts...

    Briggs Trash

+1 on the possible sheared flywheel key. If the engine acts like it’s out of time, shakes, etc. it might be the flywheel key has let the flywheel move slightly out of position on the crank. Have you done a compression test?

    LT125 42" Deck Mulch Plate

Hey I have the Sam mower. The mulching plate drops right in under the side chute flap and attaches with the same hardware you’d use with the bagger. They do tend to shake loose so I check them every time I mow. I switch from mulching to bagging in august or so for the rest of the season or...

    Cruise control

Here we go. Your cruise control is the same as mine. It’s a mechanical system with rods that run down to the brake pedal arm, and I presume an electrical switch. Rather than try to wire around it, I’d just replace the plastic cruise control switch, it’s really inexpensive. Snapper 1728090SM...

    Cruise control

I’ll have to look this up, I think the cruise control mechanism on mine is purely mechanical, but yours might be electrical. Stay tuned.

Did I buy the last Snapper SPX riding mower?

Snapper went from 8 lawn tractors in 2020 to two in 2023. None for sale @Home Depot, none at Lowes, none @ Menards. My local ACE Hardware (8 stores) don’t have a single Snapper anything. Is Snapper just giving up? Is Briggs just done with the brand?

Price Check 1960 Hahn 21” Reel Mower, 3HP Briggs

I’ll post a picture tomorrow, unit I have this mower, it runs, drives but I don’t know if I should put any time / $ into cleaning / fixing. And thoughts on what old gas reel mowers are worth?

    snapper rider mulch question

Hi there, sorry nobody answered your question. You have the same mower I do. The installed blades are not mulching blades, I bought an extra set. Look on the right side of the mower frame, you’ll see a white sticker with a model & serial. My favorite parts place is Jack’s Small Engine, they...

Snapper Owner Check-In --- Read This First!

Hey this is Thomas, I used to be from Seattle, but now I'm living in Bay Village, OH near Cleveland. I've been mowing with Briggs & Tecumseh engines for about 40 years. My current ride is my first rider, a Snapper 42" SPX. I like mowing, it's very zen, nobody can hear you, and you can't hear...

    Snapper SPX riding mower?

I bought an SPX 42" and just love it. I looked at Husqvarna and John Deere and I wouldn't buy either, the Husqvarna because of the dealer, but the John Deere because the E series tractors just look and feel like junk. I don't know if they are made in the US, but John Deere dealers treat the...

    New Snapper SPX 42"

I bought a new Snapper SPX 42" from a dealer about a months ago, mostly because Husqvarna dealer was so full of himself I couldn't stand to have to see him again. The mower is fantastic, I have it setup to mulch for now, and will switch to using the bagger when the leaves fly. It's got a...
