    1989 Wheel Horse

I was always impressed with Wheel Horse mowers and one day I got a chance for a free one if I would just go pick it up, so I did. Did a lot of studying on it, down loaded a manual, bought some parts and got it running. It needed a lot more work but I enjoyed riding it around my property...

Well Mowing season is just about done here

A real long dry spell seems to have ended the mowing season kind of early this year. I guess if it starts raining again before the first frost, might get a little more growth. At least I picked up a new angle grinder this summer and got a new faster/better way to sharpen my blades now as oppose...

    Bench Grinder Wheel Replacement

I have been sharpening my lawn mower blades on an old bench grinder I inherited from my Father in Law for about the last 30 years. I put a new grinder wheel on it when I first got it but now I need a new grinder wheel. The old markings are wore off so I can't read the details type and size...

Murry self propelled push Mower with vacuum out oil Change?

Is this something new not having an oil drain plug and requiring you to use a vacuum pump to vacuum out the oil from the oil input plug? I like to drove myself nuts figuring how to drain the oil out and finally looked at the manual and you have to vacuum it out. Is this wide spread in mowers now?

Husqvarna YTH18542 Deck Idler Tension Spring Broke. How much headache to Install new?

Was mowing today and noticed the deck engagement arm had lost a lot of its tension when I engaged it. So I shut her down and started checking the deck out and found what Husqvarna calls the "Return Spring" laying on top of the deck with one end broke off. I think I see the correct holes where I...

    Gas Powered Lawn Mower History

It appears that the very first hand push mowers go back to the early 1800's and started in England. The very first gas engine powered mower also came from England in 1902. Here is a drawing of that machine plus a little background info: "Around 1900, one of the best known English machines was...

    Dad's First Used Dunlap Mower

I was about 6 years old when he brought this mower home in the mid 50's. Our mower prior to that was a manual(non=powered) push rotary Reel mower. I remember being very much enthused with the Dunlap but I was too young to operate it. I don't recall it being run very much. I think Dad had a hard...

    Maintenance, Oiling your Riding Mower??

Sometimes I think I may go overboard on oiling so I wonder if I am the only one?! At least every other mowing or sometimes every mowing task is started by oiling that includes every lever/pedal connection where movement occurs and medal meets medal. This is includes tie rod ends, steering gear...

    What's ya'll Opinion of "Berryman B-12 CHEMTOOL"?

Regarding Lawn mowers and two cycle chainsaws, weed eaters and etc, I've found if the engine is running rough or just barely running, you can mix a little of this in with the fuel and run it a while and many times it will straighten right out and run normal. It mostly works good for a carburetor...

    Paying Homage to Rabbit

Rabbit was my next door neighbor and the best lawn equipment repairman I've ever known. He recently finished his days work in his shop, ate supper, set in his recliner and passed away. Even though it's been over a month ago, it's just now sinking in he is gone. I am a pretty decent mower...

    Model YTH 18542 Mandrel Assembly

I've had this riding mower since 2019 and after this much use I'm anticipating replacing them even though at this point they seem to be doing ok. From past experiences I never get more than five years out of a Mandrel assembly. So on my last sears mower I replaced those mandrels with ones that...

Craftsman LTS 2000 Lawn tractor, Model 917.289070 Drive Belt Slipping

I can still operate the tractor but it kind of aggravating when I try to take off in high gear and it just sits there and slips and I have to go to a lower gear to get it to start moving. Seems like after I operate it a few minuets the belt slips less. I been living with this a while and...

Repairs Honda GCV 160 with stripped out Carbirator Bolt

Repairing this Self perpelled Craftsman with a Honda Motor for a neighbor. It would run a few seconds and die. Figured it was the carburetor so I took it off and sure enough it was all corroded up. So I gave it a good cleaning and when I was putting the carb back on found the right mounting bolt...

New 42" Cut Husqvarna with a lot of Deck Vibration

Hello I'm Bob---new here! I've been doing more and more lawnmower mechanicing lately, so I thought I would join a forum that could help me along the way. On my new Husqvarna I noticed that the deck was vibrating more than normal but seem to smooth out after mowing a while. Lately my wife has...
