Is this a Briggs engine? Might have the automatic choke with an air vane that pulls it off. Could be some binding in the linkage that is preventing the choke closing?

I think most small engines have this, ignition trigger is on the crank flywheel, not sure on an opposed flathead, might be using every spark in one cylinder or the other? Glad to hear it's running as it should.

That was the problem with my mower. Still had good voltage showing but no current. Ole Tarryl fixes all on Youtube has a good video on this.

I think you can pull back on the clutch/brake pedal with the top of your foot and tighten the drive belt some, might help diagnose the problem.

Seems like you have some mechanical skill. That Tuff Torq T40 is a real low rated transaxle, even lower than the famous (infamous) K46, probably needs a rebuild to last a couple more years. Right now Surplus Center has a K57 that has a much higher torque rating and is a reasonably do-able...

Looks like an axle clip, check end play in the rear axles. Doubt it is out of your machine, you'd know it by now.

Most brake cleaner is pretty harsh stuff, removes paint even. I like to use some stuff called Purple Cleaner, does a good job, washes off easy, cheap by the gallon. Probably some other cleaners like this too. Old school gunk is pretty good, mixture of kerosene and soap but drive belts won't...

Does this have a throttle control on the handle, or just a constant speed. I'm thinking that when the governor opens the throttle the new carb is jetted too small and it leans out. If you have throttle control try going from low speed to high.

Are your dollars the same as our dollars here in the US? Big money for used mowers seems like. But I do like that SS deck mower. Dirt simple and should last forever with the right oil.

I've read some on oiling these motors and as usual, the more I read the less I know. But a LB motor runs at about 3000 rpm while most other two strokes these days runs three times that rpm or more. I run Lawn Boy oil in the stronger mix as they recommend. Runs fine, no smoke, plug burns just...

Depends on what engine and how old. Some of them are standard mag and coil with flywheel magnet trigger. Cut the ground, turn the motor over and it runs. Some have the voodoo optical triggers and all kinds of high tech useless garbage.

This might cause the fuel pump to not pump? I don't know. I'd probably take out the plugs and just run the starter while watching.

Two wires from the stator? Have to check for continuity between them (good) and short to ground (bad). Should be some sort of regulator or rectifier in that circuit before the battery connection.

I would also add that I'm somewhat on the fence on the new machines' engines. Had really good luck with Kohlers over the years, not so much with the Kawasaki motors, both on implements and motorcycles. Seems like they always have a "better idea" that winds up failing and costing a lot of money...

Does this motor have the magnets inside the flywheel? Possible that one of them came loose and is out of place?

Double check closely the belt routing. Might be a belt guard/keeper rod that is on the wrong side of the belt holding the belt off the pulley some, and hard to see under there.

Any idea how that shaft got broken? Seems odd that could even happen.

And take lots of picture when you're taking it apart. And I sometimes get a piece of cardboard, punch holes in it in the same pattern as the thing I'm working on, put the bolts in the holes to match where they came out. Sometimes gets tedious but can save a lot of head scratching a week or two...

Looks like the F motor (?) And an alloy deck to boot. Be a nice find even if it didn't run. Can't beat that price either. Great find!

What do the spark plugs look like? Evenly tan colored, black, uneven, snow white insulators?

That Scag is one heck of a machine and that's about half price of new. And you know the machine and it's care. Give ole dad a big hug and $8000.

I'm guessing that has the variable speed belt drive deal and the drive has froze up while sitting for so long. Have to get under there and check it out and free up the pulley that's not changing pitch if so.

For images I download from camera or phone, copy and paste to Paint, reduce about 50% to get the MB size down, then name and save to pictures. Then can attach to most forums.

That's the weirdest thing I've heard of on a mower. Recoil starter grabbing on shut down? Maybe a ball of twine around the crankshaft at the bottom?

I don't have one of those motors, and for sure - now - I never will. But for the bigger HP machines I want a twin, just because. A Kohler Courage and a Tuff Torq transaxle, now there's a recipe for disaster.

And the current 10 year warranties on Chinese refrigeration equipment. Read the fine print and it's on the compressor only, all else is a one year coverage. And a lot of the one year warranties is a replacement, keep the old junk, nobody wants it and the stuff is too cheap to pay for a repair...

That actually sounds like a pretty good system, rather than the rubber tire running on a rotating steel wheel at 90 degrees. Interesting....

Actually I like to run the twins a bit slower anyway, sounds better to me. I like the sound of a two cylinder motor and when mowing for an hour or so it makes a difference. No magic in 3600 rpm unless it's a generator.

I have a Harbor Freight strobe type tach that works pretty decent. Uses an LED I think, put a strip of foil on the rotating screen on the top of the motor and point the tach at it. Cheap and it works.

This is a pretty dumb question, but is it possible to put the coil on upside down, way early ignition?

I'd guess it's a brushless motor, runs on AC. Those square gizmos are switching transistors, the black round things are capacitors that time the switching for the correct AC supply. I'd also guess it's been run on low voltage or stalled out and the transistors are shot. But first off I'd look...

Dad had an old Gravely that he put an electric starter on when he got too old to pull the strap. He'd turn it forward up on the top of the compression stroke, then hit the button. This would give it two crank rotations to get up to speed for starting. Old machine is still running and gets...
