OK, moving into the 40's lawn mowers. From what research I've done this is the decade of the trimmed down powered reel mowers and the rise of the Briggs and Stratton Engine. When I say trimmed down I mean in comparison to the 20's and 30's reel mowers. Of course there were exceptions from the...

    Maintenance, Oiling your Riding Mower??

OK, Thanks! It seems before I would puff some graphite on the fittings I would need to clean the gritty oil and dirt out of the fittings first. I got an aerosol carburetor cleaner that might do the job or get some engine cleaner

I was in Wally World tonight and was looking at the different spray lubricants but I couldn't remember what was recommended, so I didn't get nothing. After I got home and looked at this thread. I'm trying to decided between WD-40 Specialist White Lithium Grease or Silicone. The Lithium Grease...

Har, You right! I did a little research and the first electric powered weed eater with string line was invented in the 70's. Turns out is was a popcorn can with holes drilled in it with heavy fishing line placed through the holes hooked up to a hedge trimmer, if I got the story right?

JP Mower continued: Another of the design features that made the 24" JP Super Power Mower unusual in its time was the starting mechanism. This was an early type of rope or pull start, whereas during the same period most motor mowers featured conventional crank handle starting. JP claimed this...

Here is another 20's reel mower called the JP Super Power Mower with a little info as follows: Of the motor mowers produced by JP in the 1920s and 1930s by far the rarest and, perhaps, most interesting is the 24" JP Super Power Mower. This was unusual because it featured a water cooled four...

Yeah, it's taken a 100+ years to refine the design gradually to what we have today. They were hooked for a long time on the reel type blades when the flat deck with vertical shaft motor and regular flat blade was so much more simple and efferent.

The Roaring 20's brought slimmed down gas powered machines and a little better designs more suited for residential yards of the common household. Still the most common for normal folks was the non-powered walk behind push rotary mowers. Enter the 1921 ATCO 22" cut: The machine was introduced...

    Dad's First Used Dunlap Mower

I thought so myself! It's about as basic as you can get and still be a gas power mower. Instead of having an engine shroud that extended over the cylinder, it just has a cooling wheel with some tilted blades. I've been looking at all sorts of vintage mowers on the net lately and fascinated...

    Dad's First Used Dunlap Mower

I was about 6 years old when he brought this mower home in the mid 50's. Our mower prior to that was a manual(non=powered) push rotary Reel mower. I remember being very much enthused with the Dunlap but I was too young to operate it. I don't recall it being run very much. I think Dad had a hard...

Well I guess it's just something I'm inclined to do and feel better about doing it rather than not. I know some that are a lot more knowledgeable than me that never oil or grease and I can't help but wonder about that. Guess I'll continue since nobody scolded me real bad

Well the statement "will mow for food" need to be accompanied by the picture of a Goat to make sense! Sometimes I think I may go overboard on oiling so I wonder if I am the only one?! What's ya'll Opinion of "Berryman B-12 CHEMTOOL"?

Regarding Lawn mowers and two cycle chainsaws, weed eaters and etc, I've found if the engine is running rough or just barely running, you can mix a little of this in with the fuel and run it a while and many times it will straighten right out and run normal. It mostly works good for a carburetor...

It appears that this subject is really subjective. I got started on these off brand Mandrels with grease fittings when my old Sears 2000 42" cut when the originals went out. Paying Homage to Rabbit

Rabbit was my next door neighbor and the best lawn equipment repairman I've ever known. He recently finished his days work in his shop, ate supper, set in his recliner and passed away. Even though it's been over a month ago, it's just now sinking in he is gone. I am a pretty decent mower...
