What is the symptom indicating low power? Speed decreasing? Blades turning slowly? If speed is the indicator, the trans itself could be the problem, especially if it's a hydro.

Check the tip of the anti-fire solenoid. I've seen a couple rubber tips get soft and swell. Blocks fuel past it. You can cut tip off for troubleshooting.

If you bought a cheap aftermarket carb, I would suggest disassembling the original and cleaning it well. Cheap carbs do not run well.

From what I understand, a local fix-it shop made whatever adjustments to get it to run. It did run well, just had no balls when it needed. They wide open throttle cable was the issue with the plate. The choke screw had to be backed off to get the two holes to line up.

I agree, but I have heard on this forum to adjust the static adj any time a carb is replaced. I don't do that or any other time. This one had previously been adjusted to overcome replacing the gear.

The static adjustment was correct. It was the plate that was out. The tech used the wrong engine manual and the correct plate was not shown. With the Forums help, I got the correct manual and adjustment procedure. Thanks again.

Where are you getting belts? Stick to OEM. I have had cheap ones snap first time or very soon.

I did check one store and all 8 mowers had that battery in them. If I was to purchase a mower there, I would insist the larger battery be installed. May work fine with a fresh tune-up and warm conditions.

Try a governor static adjustment. loosen the clamp on the governor arm, hold the throttle all the way open, rotate the governor arm max CCW and tighten the clamp. Compression test may show the issue.

The red filters are for gravity fed fuel systems. I, personally, install the white\clear paper filters on all engines I work on. Both gravity and fuel pump operated. Never had a fuel related problem since.

One thing I have found out with the electrics, you don't clean the deck undersides with a hose as done with a gas unit. The person that gave me mine, had quickly power washed the underside and let it sit for over a week before using. It ran for about 10 mins and died.

Make sure you put in for a refund, or replacement, of that crap carb. All seller I have dealt with will provide one, or the other, and probably won't want the carb back as there's gas in it. They know what they're selling.

On other engines, I have opened the main jet, a little at a time, with micro drills until it ran correctly. Go a small amount to see if it affects the richness.

I have purchased a tach that is similar to the one in the video, but much cheaper. It instructs to hold close to the spark plug wire to measure. It is very erratic. Is this normal or too cheap of unit?

Could you not swap plugs between the two? I would turn the engine, with the long plug, over by hand the first time to make sure the piston does not hit the plug. Or, you could measure the distance from the top of the piston to the top of the spark plug hole to see if there's a difference. If...
