    Engine runs rough

Well I would check that it is actually running on both cylinders first thing. Put pug wires on loosely and remove one at a time or just remove one at a time when stopped and see if it will start with just one wire on at a time. Walt Conner

B & S V twin intek flooding after running awhile

I would disconnect the Kill Wires from the base of each coil and try it. While it might be a coil, they are very reliable and the Kill Wire diodes failing is more common. Walt Conner

    Fuel issues with 33r877

I always have a test gravity feed gas tank at hand and I think you are on the right track using one. Problem not in crankcase. Suspect leak in vacuum line or pump diaphragm. Your test tank will help tell you. Walt Conner

    22 Hp Briggs won’t start

There are holes in the flywheel for the cheap B&S puller or you can easily make your own puller. Use self tapping bolts in the untapped holes or simply tap the holes. I have pictures of B&S blocks with holes punched in the top of block using above pry bar procedure. Walt Conner

Oil leak and can't take off flywheel

If you are lucky enough to pry over a re-enforcing Web, you may get by with it. IF you pry between re-enforcing webs, the casting is very thin. Walt Conner

    Briggs and Stratton 407777-0170-G5

B&S engine coils do not need nor want battery power to them. That is a death Nell for B&S coils. Walt Conner

Oil leak and can't take off flywheel

Might help if you posted what engine you are talking about. One caution, using the method above runs the risk of punching a hole in the top of the engine block. I have pictures of just that from using the described method. Walt Conner

Vanguard physical size compared to Intek

The Stator will be interchangeable. However, the charging rate will depend on the flywheel used with it. The single cylinder Vanguard engines turned into being Inteks when the twin cylinder Vanguards came out which were mfg'd in Japan in my experience, same internal parts. Use this link to...

Intek 18 hp OHV- #31E777 0443 E1. Loud popping at higher RPM, under load, or hitting bumps(roots, etc.) Video under 1st Reply. Thanks for any input.

Fish is old school like me, nut on some, solenoid on others, same thing and I agree, sounds like water in fuel system. Don't confuse people, that does not have an automatic choke, it has a manually activated choke engaged by the final movement of the throttle control. Walt Conner

    Briggs Cam Problem

?? I know things are different "down under" but here in the States cam lobes do not actual run under the oil level (grin) Walt Conner

    Briggs Cam Problem

?? Note it is not always the lower cam lobe which rounded off, see pictures. I think there was simply poor hardening on a bunch of Chinese cam lobes. Going cheaper, doing away with the one pc. forged camshaft was the mistake. Walt Conner

Briggs and Stratton16 hp OVH Engine Surges/Runs Bad Pops Throughout Intake.

A bent push rod almost always means a slipped valve guide. Valve guide should not extend more than 1/8 inch above head casting. Otherwise valve keeper hits top of valve guide bending push rod. IF this is the case, B&S says the only fix is a new head. I have a tried and true permanent fix as well...

    Compression Lock

Main reason for replacing heads is slipped valve guides which can be permanently fixed fairly easily and inexpensively. Walt Conner

    Sump base won't go on

31 series 13,5 hp?? Something definitely wrong with your assembly. Marks lineup to assemble is a side fact, marks must line up for it to run right. As said above, sounds to me like it has an oil pump and you did not remove the oil pump shaft until sump is installed. Walt Conner

    This one has me stumped

The type tank/carb you describe generally has an open topped bowl just below the top of the tank. Your diaphragm fuel pumps gas up into this bowl which overflows back into the tank. The bowl stays at a constant level and the carb draws gas from this bowl so no float. When the tank is full, it...

Is this flywheel key bad enough to cause rough running?

You have the right idea, put tension on it then a solid rap over the crankshaft end with a hammer. Walt Conner

Parked it and shut down running fine, yet now starts but sputters...

It is always a good idea to post the model number when asking an engine question however, this is likely a 44 series. I would check that it is running on both cylinders. Pull one plug wire at a time and see if it will start. These will start and run happily on one cylinder when all is well. My...

    Briggs Low Compression after Rebuild

Never heard of "iron coated aluminum bore". I suspect it is aluminum bore, most 25 series were, and you used the wrong rings and aluminum bore is now scored to pieces. Aluminum bore has special coating which hone quickly destroys also. Walt Conner

    No Spark On Briggs

Yeah, how? Just for the record, a sheared flywheel key will have no affect on whether it has spark, only affect if it is at the right time. (Unless it is a 1980 or older engine) Also, concern with corrosion, dirty, is only with the coil mounting surfaces. Walt Conner

Briggs & Stratton 21hp platinum engine hard to crank and knocks!

A 33 Series engine is of course a single cylinder engine. Sure does not sound like a valve issue to me. You bought a new crankshaft? So you had to remove the old counter weight ass'y and reinstall it on new crankshaft? Sounds to me like your problem is there. Walt Conner

    Interchangeable Engines?

Should not be a problem> IF the charging systems are different, all parts involved are interchangeable including flywheel, even cooling shroud IF the 12.5 flywheel happens to have plastic cooling fan. Walt Conner

    flywheel indentification

    Opposed twin, need some help

B&S idle recommendations for these engines is high to me BUT if you idle them too slow, lubrication does not reach the top main bearing resulting in wear and the accompanying "chuckle" from the top main when idling. Also, there is a little spring on the back side of the carb throttle shaft arm...

    starter drive gear and ringgear

You need to know what starter gear you need before ordering starters or gears. I once used after market starter gears but became wiser and only used genuine B&S starter gears in my repair business. No need to buy a new starter because of stripped gear. Compression Release/Valve adjustment will...

    Connecting rods require crank purchase

This occurred in early versions of the engine and some speculate that a large batch of connection rods were manufactured which were slightly out of spec and rather that scrap them, crankshafts were machined to enable use of these rods OR I think more likely, it could be the opposite, a large...

    B&S Intek 22 441777

It does have compression release however it is what I call a passive system which does not have the mechanism which causes most problems. Cam lobes are ground to hold Intake Valves slightly open well into the compression stroke relieving some compression. Adjust valves and don't worry about...

    Push Rod Help PLease

Well you didn't say what you did about the slipped valve guide. Simply pushing it back in place will not do it. Also, why the guide slipped in the first place. Usually it is caused by a cooling problem, plugged cooling shroud or cooling fins. Don't forget the passage going thru the head around...

B&G 5hp engine wont turn over, seems to be exhausting through the carb

Sounds to me like you are referring to a valve seal as a second retainer which should be on the Intake valve IF it has a seal. Also, some discharge out the Intake Valve thru carb is normal at start and is the result of the Easy Spin cam grind which relieves a little compression for ease of...

    Briggs and Stratton 33r777

" Now it's back firing through air intake. " Typical of flywheel key being partially or completely sheared. Can check by removing shroud, screen, crankshaft bolt and washer then looking down keyway. OR the Intake valve clearance is not properly set or Valve seat is bad/dislodged. Walt Conner

Suggest you replace the engine with a good used 31 series which will be a direct replacement and more plentiful than the 33 series.
