Relative to spindles, I just bought and installed an Amazon Asian assembly from PetMigo. [Yeah, me too.] It looked fine tho, has a grease fitting, but no weep hole to know when the housing is full, and gone are those self-tappers -- replaced thankfully by capscrews into a threaded spindle...

Gotcha and thx for the detailed post. I didn't know there was a real difference as I was referring to the cheaper tilt versions. I knew I could do it but it's now clear I don't want that adventure several times a day.
