What is the battery voltage when you try to start the engine. If voltage drops below 10.5 VDC when you turn the key to the start position, you either have a bad battery or a lose connection.

You can do the same thing the techs on this site will need to do. Pull up the IPL for each engine and compare part numbers.

If you can’t feel or hear the fuel solenoid click, the plunger is probably not operating correctly. Either gummed up or bad.

If you don’t feel or hear a click, I would remove the solenoid and make sure the plunger is moving freely. I spray carb cleaner on the plunger and carefully move it in/out until it moves freely. Engine model numbers please.

Does it have a fuel solenoid on the carb? If so have someone turn the key to the RUN position while you grab the solenoid. You should feel and hear it click if it is working. When you post back include the engine numbers.

You can install it either before or after the filter. If it were me I’d install it before the filter so I can shut off the fuel when changing the filter.

Post some pictures and what you are dealing with. If you use you phone you will need to reduce size before posting.

I would keep Scag on speed dial. Make sure you document ever time you call them, name time, explanation, etc. Something smells fishy with the dealers you’re working with. I don’t like their explanations.

Just closing off the discharge chute wiil not give you a good mulching condition. My experience tells me Craftsman don’t mulch very good in the first place and you will need a mulching kit with mulching blades to get fair results.

If you post the model, type and code numbers you have a better chance of getting help. When you say won’t crank what do mean? Engine turns over but won’t start? Engine won’t turn over? Engine trys to start, but won’t stay running?

Try this trick, close off the carb air intake with your hand and give it a good pull. If all jets are open your hand should get covered with gas, and the engine may even start. When you post back, please give us the spec number so we can narrow down which carb you have.

First thing I always check on Tecumseh engines which have a hard starting problem is float level. Float seat will swell, lowering the fuel level in the float bowl. If I find this I replace the float needle and seat, plus adjust the float level.

21” Toro Supper Recycler will do everything you want it to do.

I recommend a Toro SuperRecyler cast deck. The only item on your list it won’t do is 20” cut, this is 21”. I’ve sold these since they came out and have have only one person bring it back. If properly maintained I call these 20 year mowers.

Are you positive you replaced the key switch with the exact same switch? Many switches look the same, but the terminals are different. Please post your units model and serial numbers so we can check on which switch you need.
