    Old Cub Cadet Restoration ?s n A's

Kohler engine model number is K161. Kohler used Delco starter/generators on most of their engines. Delco numbers 1101691 or 1101998. Kohler number 41-098-01. There should be a model number stamped into the starter case. Back in the 80’s I rebuilt an average of two a month. I would check...

Oil drain assembly question - trying to fix leak

First thing you need to do is give the unit a good washing and drying. Next you must figure out if the problem is the pan gasket, drain assembly or something else. After cleaning run the mower and carefully observe where the leak is.

Hr-215 I want to cut grass without engaging self propel.

Try searching “self propel always engaged on a hr215bl mower”. You’ll find some tips on what to look for. A good tech would probably see the problem, but we are not standing next to you to see the handle assembly. I don’t think it’s been modified.

Brand New Toro Titan 60" - problems

That is normal for units purchased at a big box store. A dealer would have done a complete setup and inspection before it went off his lot. Biggest issue I have seen with units sold at big box stores is that the decks are not installed properly and not leveled. You should find procedures to...

    Lubing

Everyone can pump as much grease into the drive systems that they want. I’ve worked on Toro drives for over 40 years and found that the number one cause of failure is dirt, which builds up in the grease and wears out the gears, rachets, thrust washers, and axles prematurely. How do you...

    Lubing

Never grease it until in comes out the seal. Only thing this will do is attract dirt and hold it against the bearings and gears, causing premature failure. I’ve always recommend one pump, once a year. Recommend you you clean everything and start over, if you feel you have overloaded the gears...

    Fixes but engine won't start

First thing I would do is pull the dipstick and check to see if it is over filled and smells like gas. If it does your float needle is not shutting off the fuel in the float bowl, allowing fuel to flow straight through the carb and into the cylinder and crankcase. If it does am right you will...

    FR651v low compression

You need to have a leakdown test to diagnose the problem. I understand you may not have a good repair shop locally, but going out of your area maybe less costly than replacing the engine. If you are going to try to do it yourself, some auto parts places loan out testers, but you have to know...

    FR651v low compression

Before doing anything I would have the dealer preform a leak down test on each cylinder. This will give you a better idea as to where the problem exists and how to proceed. A dealer who just does a compression test and then says “replace “ is a little suspect in my eyes. Might have to go to a...
