Storing a mower with no gas

I believe most carb problems are caused by storing these engines outside where moisture gets in the fuel tank and carb. Unleaded 87 octane with 10% alcohol is a blessing as it absorbed the water and prevents it from beading in the fuel tank and that dirty water from being sucked into the carb...

    Won't Spin Past Compression Stroke

i have had this happen. A little bump on a fly weight next to the intake cam hits the lifter on the way up and releases the compression just a little so the engine turns over easier when starting. Once it is running, the fly weight rotates the bump out of the way and the lifter tides only on...

Stihl MS 250 Chain Saw Problems

You might try replacing the fuel tank filter. My Stihl was hard starting and once it was running it would fail when I tried to accelerate the engine. A new tank filter fixed everything. Another thing I learned. My Stihl was running good, but after a while it idle and stumble and sometimes quit...

How to stop cut grass blades from accumulating inside mower cavity?

One speed unless the grass is thick. Heavy grass and reduce the speed as the electric may not have the power to keep up.

    Engine shakes while engaging blades

Remember, AI is only what the program writer was thinking. If his experience is limited, the AI won't be better. From my experience, computer geeks are good at what they do, but dim bulbs out of their element. I wouldn't trust AI for anything. Web sites use it so they don't have to hire a pro to...

    Engine shakes while engaging blades

I believe the shaking is the result of unbalanced blades. See if they are worn. They make a balancer, enter "lawn mower blade balancer" on google. Sharpen your blades, then set them on the balancer. If one end is low, it is heavy. Grind a little metal off the back side of that blade at the end...

    Which deck belt?

Cadet, Husqvarna, Craftsman are all MTDs. the mower decks are identical. I had a craftsman and blew an engine. Bought a Husqvarna and my bagging system fit perfectly including all the bolt holes. I have replaced several belts, spindles and keepers. The deck has a rear tension spring that pulls...

NASTY surprise from Toro on filler plug

Increase the size of the hole. Then watch for cracking. Looking at this, I don't see the stress for cracking. A hole saw might work!

54 inch riding mower just clicks, won't start

Clean the battery posts first. I am thinking your jump is making a better connection than the battery posts.

Customer states, hit a stump and now deck is making terrible noises

I once sold a used 6 hp string mower to a woman. I told her to check the oil and add whatever every time she fueled it. It came back blown up. She said look, it is full of oil. I pulled the dip stick and indeed it was full with clean oil except for bottom quarter inch that was black.

    No start

In the old cars and tractors with point ignitions the capacitor was in the distributor with the points. The coil was separate. We used to charge the capacitor and leave it lying on the bench for unsuspecting curious visitor to grab. One guy picked it up and got shocked and I said, "bit ya...

Ryobi RY253SS 2-cycle trimmer dies after about 10 seconds

The crack or pin hole in the supply fuel line seems noteworthy. Fill the tank and see if it runs OK. If the problem only occurs after the fuel level drops it is probably a cracked fuel pickup line. Air is sucked into the crack and the engine falters.

    Sudden start problem

Why all this concern over non-alcohol fuel. I have been using 10% alcohol fuel ever since it came out. Never had a problem. The alcohol will absorb any moisture or water and solves that problem. I mean gas line anti-freeze is alcohol. The Briggs and Stratton manual says 10% alcohol gasoline is...
