GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

I decided to take the valve cover off before pulling the flywheel, this is what I found. A combination of being happy and embarrassed both. Apparently when the lifters fell out when I had the camshaft out, the rocker arms shifted since I had turned the engine on it's side. I put these back...

Thanks! I will try to pull the flywheel today to examine.

GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

Thanks for the replies and for the link. I did not have the flywheel off, and didn't remove the piston or crank. As I am new at this, if there was a problem with the woodruff key, I would still be showing spark (with a tester) but the spark wouldn't be occurring at the proper time?

GX240: Ran, disassembled, now it won't!

I am renovating a used and abused bed redefiner that came with a GX240. The entire machine, including the engine, was filthy. It had an oil leak at the bottom of the crankcase. I had to take the engine off anyway to do some welding on the frame, and decided to clean the carb while I was...

I want to adjust the valves but can't find the specs.

Thanks for the replies and especially the links, which I have saved. I got into this today, both intake and exhaust were quite a bit larger than specified. I adjusted them to .005 and .010. The motor started on the first pull and seems to be running a little smoother. (Maybe my imagination...

I want to adjust the valves but can't find the specs.

I got a used John Deere pressure washer with a John Deere "badged" engine. It is an OHV 250cc horizontal engine with 11.5 on the cover but this is supposed to be torque and not hp. I am just about positive is an Briggs engine. Number is 150212-0126-B8. I can't find the specs for the valve...

Is this a Briggs clone? And a general question re. fuel solenoid valve.

ILENGINE: Thanks for the prompt reply! Both things make sense now. I will need to make sure that the linkages on that choke system are free and lubed. I was having trouble getting my head around the solenoid but I see it now.

Is this a Briggs clone? And a general question re. fuel solenoid valve.

I am helping a neighbor with a no start, and leak condition on a neglected 5500w generator. It is an UST model. I verified the carb is completely junked up, the threads on the bowl retaining nut are missing, and the petcock filter in the tank was broken off. I've ordered a carb and new...

Anyone know what this Briggs and Stratton engine is???

Once you get your numbers sorted you may want to check Marketplace for old edgers. I see them often for $25 dollars or so and you can probably get both the parts you need from one of these.

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

Some progress! Some other questions. Acting on the forum advice I got into this again and had some good news. I took everything apart that I have had apart before. I took off the muffler and got down to the breather to examine but no visible problems. I took the governor plate and magneto...

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

Thanks. Do you have info on how to check the breather? I found a youtube about changing it but not troubleshooting.

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

Thanks for all the ideas. I tried the gas cap trick. I removed the float bowl with the carb still on the engine and verified that I have a good flow by working the float up and down. I removed the float and needle again to verify. I verified that the main jet is clear. I took the plug out...

This one has me stumped/6.5 hp quantum

I bought an non-running pressure washer from Marketplace. The seller said it hadn't been running for a couple of years. Typically the gamble on these for me is whether the pump is shot, and if the pump is good I can flip by getting it running, and put it back on Marketplace. I can't get this...

What am I missing/ Fuel leak at carb

That's a good tip. I recently purchased one of the hand held pumps.

What am I missing/ Fuel leak at carb

I got back on this today, using all the suggestion provided Rivets and Scrubcadet10. I think I did not have the seat pushed all the way to the bottom of the tube. I took the bowl off with the carb in place. I "could" push up on the float and stop the flow but it required some force plus felt...
