I have seen about a half dozen with loose crankcase bolts that causes loss of primary compression. Mech at an echo dealrt said he sees it a lot on the homeowner grade stuff.

If you take the head off you can put in on a piece of glas with some high grit sandpaper like 600 and hold it flat and swirl it in a figure 8 for about 30 seconds and see if it is warped by the scratch pattern on the head. I sand heads flat if they are warped.

How fast does fresh oil turn black? A blown head gasket will turn oil black in a couple of hours of running.

A leakdown test would tell you more. If the head was warped the new gasket could have failed on startup. Does it start right up but blows a puff of smoke the runs fine with no smoke? A slightly blown head gasket on that engine will do that.

The head gasket is blown. Seen it blow oil out of the fuel pump a few times.

Remove the paper filter and replace it with the round red screen type. Some paper filters are not compatible with gravity systems.

If it has the stupid automatic electric parking brake you might try unplugging and plugging in the connector to the brake control module a few times and see what happens. They are famous for corroded connections.

There was an article i read on the internet (must be true) that most of the plugs on amazon are counterfeit. I get my plugs from stens and another reputable online source. Took a plug out of a honda once that i was pretty sure was a counterfeit NGK.

I found the guy a used flywheel on fleabay for $100. Cheaper than wasting time with a maybe fix.

Yeah cust asked if i could fix the flywheel. Sorry. Used a hacksaw and a cold chisel to cut the stuff off then found it got up in the bottom bearing. So they get to buy a new spindle.
