54" BAD BOY MZ Magnum (zero turn) Blade Replacement OEM Blades - Blades Slipping

Mechanical engineer driving manual transmission since 1975. Try me on the physics. Fact: Idle speed activation of electric PTO shreds belts. Manufacturer says 2/3rd to full throttle when activating. What the manufacturer says is not intuitive but real world experience supports their...

    How much oil

The amount to fill depends on the amount drained. You never get it all out. Fill to full on the dipstick. Use the manufacturer’s spec as a first approximation as to how much you need. Never need more than that.

54" BAD BOY MZ Magnum (zero turn) Blade Replacement OEM Blades - Blades Slipping

My dealer has an assortment of belts hanging on the wall which were shredded by owners starting the blades at idle. As an example of, “don’t do this.” I don’t understand how this “soft start” would not create more problems than it solves?

54" BAD BOY MZ Magnum (zero turn) Blade Replacement OEM Blades - Blades Slipping

Country Clipper says: Only engage the clutch with the throttle approximately 2/3 to full throttle and no load on the deck blades. Allow the blades to come up to speed and move the throttle lever to full throttle prior to cutting grass.

    Best for hills?

When they are too ashamed of the price, I lose interest. However based on their fantastic cost saving claims backing out the numbers suggests $500.

    Battery

A bad battery can show full voltage yet not source sufficient current.

    Best for hills?

I too require a cane. left arm works better than my primary right arm. I can work my caps lock key. Nothing more than an oar lock strategically placed on the rider is needed to control the standard unmodified string trimmer one handed. Rest the trimmer shaft in the oar lock, then one hand for...

    Best for hills?

Just carry a battery electric string trimmer on your mower.

    Best for hills?

If it has ROPS then it is probably over 1000 pounds, which would contribute to “sticky”.

    Best for hills?

Meh. If it tows, even a kid’s wagon, it is by definition a tractor. You do know the thing with an engine at the front of a semi truck is a tractor?

What makes it a mulching mower?

I only mulched with my EGo 21" SP electric mower. Basically you need a blade with high lift on the outer portion, down blowing in the center, so that clippings circulate. Sometimes I bagged so as to have clippings to cover bare ground. Have not been mulching with the ZTR as it blows grass 10'...

Melted and fused bump head "string"

Yes but the O.P. said nothing about what model head. And my point is that there possibly others which are melting.

Any chance it has this head?

    Best for hills?

Zero turns use castor wheels on the front. Unsteered. These can be problematic on hillsides no matter twin stick, joystick, or steering wheel. A lawn tractor with steering wheel directly connected to front wheels is probably best. I’m not familiar with the lawn tractor market these days but...

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

To the above I would add: 1) Quality of spindles. Might fixate on fabricated decks but spindles are common replacement items. Some box store brands use blades with oddball mounting limiting selection to OE only.

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

Have tried one of those at my dealer. Helped but not as good as the Country Clipper. Problem is Country Clipper is having troubles and he had to drop the line.

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

Significant option on my Country Clipper 42” was the optional front step and handrail. I can not get on/off without. I have the joystick model.

Make or break features on a zero-turn?

Is my understanding the CPSC rule is ROPS required if 1000 pounds. Agree, I want ROPS, even on my lighter 42”.

    Fuel mix question

The more oil you use the less gasoline. Carburetor will be jetted lean if you increase oil.

    GOODBYE TO ELECTRIC

How much is a new engine? It doesn’t really matter. What matters is how much service you get for what you pay. Consider cost of gasoline, cost of getting gasoline, motor oil, and replacement engine. Is pretty hard to accurate estimate for comparison which suggests the results are close. I...

    GOODBYE TO ELECTRIC

EGo chargers use forced air through the battery. Don’t know if they do the same in push mowers during discharge. The battery is in a clean, closed, compartment that could have airflow. Don’t remember any filter for that compartment. 1st generation 2016 EGo mower.

    Best oil? High zinc?

"Thermal conductivity" is not the same thing as "carrying more heat". In general the more one carries in suspension in a fluid the lower the freezing point. That doesn't help motor oil. I seriously doubt the specific heat (the property of "carrying" heat) is significantly changed from 700 to...

    Freight for new mower order?

The dealer often gets free freight on larger orders. Or much reduced per unit if they can send a full truck load.

    Best oil? High zinc?

I remember Dupont suing over the use of their trademark Teflon™ while not purchasing from Dupont. Dupont refused to sell Teflon™ to Slick50 because Dupont engineers believed it hurt more than helped. Teflon™ breaks down in the combustion chamber. One of the components is HF, hydrofluoric acid...

    Best oil? High zinc?

I am saying very few automobiles have roller lifters. My 2018 F-150 2.7 Ecoboost (twin turbo) does not. My 2016 9000 RPM Yamaha FJR1300 does not. My 2007 Prius did not. The valve springs are much stiffer than any power equipment engine I have seen. And while the Yamaha does over 4000 RPM quite...
