Removing the discharge chute- why not a locking nut?

19 horse Briggs & Stratton will only run with choke half on
I have one of those engines on my Craftsman rider, it was hunting real bad, turned out to be the anti-back fire valve, put a plug in it's place, runs good now (all summer) Thanks, Doug Lee *
