Hello all! My username is actually the name of my goat, but you can call me Aimee :). I have a decent yard which had not had a lawn for years. Since we changed it over the goat has been doing a good job of 'mowing' it. I'm still looking for a mechanical version though, as when the goat is gone I won't be replacing her.

I have an MTD, and I think it's an excellent brand. So far it's been very low maintenance. But not as low maintenance as I'm sure your goat is:smile:

Most any mechanical mower will stay home better than your goat mower. This one is trimming shrubs at my ranch and her intended place can be seen behind her across the 5 strand barbed wire fence reinforced with continuous 54 inch tall cattle panels. I firmly believe a goats main purpose in life is to be where they aren't supposed to be and survival comes second.

What kinds of goats do you have? I have an Elf Pygmy, he is only a baby and I think we will be getting another soon so he has some company, we raise them as pets we do not eat them.

Hi everyone. McGinty is a Nubian and very typical of the breed, (noisy and stubborn). I would love an Angora just because they are soooo cute but I think a more manageable pet will be next. They are a lot of fun though. I never know what she'll do next!

I am jealous as I would love an unusual pet. (Do you think of her that way?) I wonder how goats get along with other animals, say cats and dogs. How much land can you expect one goat to keep in shape? (Sorry for asking so many questions, I am very curious.)

Goats being better browsers and sheep better grazers I'd go for the sheep to maintain a lawn. They were used before mechanical mowers and according to this link still are by accident on occasion.

SandburRanch that is a great link. It made me smile to think of the poor things standing around 'looking bewildered!' I do like sheep but they are not blessed with the most brains in the animal world are they. I think that's why I love my goat, she has plenty of guile and personality.
