JD 757 only runs and moves when the PTO blades are engaged.

I have a 2007 JD 757. Bought it earlier this summer with only 660 hrs. on it. Been running great, then a week ago it just stopped running cutting my yard. My son helped me trouble shoot and this is what we found. Starts up fine and continues running when i release the parking brake. AS SOON AS I engage the handles to move it, it cuts off. Either arm and it will cut off. BUT, if I engage the PTO blades, it will move. as soon as the PTO is shut off, if the handles are pulled in, it cuts off. We checked all the wires seat switch, replaced the PTO switch. same results, no change. Even tried bypassing the seat safety switch, no change. I'm stumped!

Remove the right console cover and locate the plug-in "box diode". Remove it and see if it all works them. The seat switch is also common to wear the harness and short to the seat frame.

IF seat switch is shorting to ground it would be blowing the 20A [F3] fuse. It is a +12v circuit, not a ground circuit.

Which one is a box diode? I see 4 relays, 2 orange things that only have 2 wire connections each, and a small 3 plug connection that maybe a relay. Thank you.

We need the product ID label information off of the rear chassis of the unit to determine if it is an early or later production model. John Deere made a lot of changes during production, so the year model does not tell up much.

Before you waste a trip... Do you have a multimeter? If so, an Ohm test will confirm a diode easily. One direction of connection show continuity, switch the meter leads and it should show no continuity. Diodes are a 1-way electrical door. If it tests continuity in both directions, the diode is bad.

At the dealer, I hope they have someone who knows how to use multimeter. Otherwise, they will charge you an hour of labor, then sell you new parts without you ever realizing if they really tested anything properly.

I was a JD service manager for a few years, and their goal is to sell, sell, sell.
