Apparently no one ever told the guy that he got to notch the tree before trying to fall it. And he should have gotten a ten pack of bars and chains as three didn't do the job.

You probably mean the side he starting the cut. That what ropes and vehicle are for. Any case he needs to be sure of his fall area. I have cut several top heavy trees and got them to fall the way I them to fall and only one time I had to use a rope to make sure I kept the tree out of the power lines.
