I recently acquired a Simplicity Broadmoor hydro 17 lawn tractor.
Model 1693694 made in 2000 or 2001 (briggs engine)
if engine turns over but has no spark does that rule out a faulty safety switch?
it does have spark with kill wire unhooked. ignition switch is Ok.

Results Information your tractor. Absolutely not referring to safety switches. See wiring diagrams for troubleshooting purposes.

Yes you have a faulty safey switch or relay.
start at the kill wire you disconnected and follow it back through the mower.
All of the kill wire switches should be open when the mower is set to run ( PTO off, direction/gear in neutral , brake/clutch engaged )
