Can I deep soak B&S carb at home?

Going to rebuild/clean my B&S 12h802-1531-21 carb. Is there something I can soak carb in overnight (or couple days) at home or does it take industrial strength cleaner to really get into all nooks a crannies?

Most of your car parts dealers sell a one gallon can of carburetor cleaner with the small parts basket in it. I use this in by shop all the time and find a can will last well over a year or two. I well let the carburetor set over night and never had a problem yet. I think it works just as well as the big shops use, seeing I have used both.

I am also thinking the price of the gallon can of carburetor cleaner is close to 40 dollars. If I just had one carburetor to clean it might worth it to see what a shop would charge you to use their cleaner. Then stop and think what a new carb would cost? Unless you plan on doing a number of carburetors to make it pay.

I have found that a 50/50 mix of non ethanol fuel and SeaFoam work well for soaking carbs. Just need to find a container which will cover the carb without spending a lot on SeaFoam. Just an option.

Well I picked up a can - $25.99 - ouch!

But I can use it on some motorcycle parts/carb in future. Just want to clean as much of the external dirt and grime on B&S carb so I don't get too much dirt it solution right away.

Another question. Do I need to romove throttle shaft gasket before soaking carb?

I just noticed that close up show crack. I have ordered a new carb. Also ordered rebuild kit thinking I'd rebuild this one as spare. Maybe I will rethink that.
