Z920M Transmission Leaking

Hello all,

I am new here and very glad to have found your forum; such forums are a fantastic tool in my experience.

A little background - I am a home owner and have been spending hours each weekend mowing my 1+ acre yard on a Craftsman garden tractor, which I'd gotten fed up with having to repair. For a few years both my cousin and brother-in-law have been telling me I needed to buy a zero turn, but only recently did my cousin tell me how it could reduce my time spent mowing (approx 2hrs) down to like 45 mins or less!! He explained I should buy a used commercial machine, since those are significantly faster. So, I bought my 1130 hour 2015 Z920M off a guy on eBay.

I love the machine, but alas, have already had to replace the carb - no big deal ... BUT, that's not all ... there is hydraulic fluid leaking down the inside of the right tire :frown: In my experience, with my Jeep CJ7, that means an axle seal leak. I am tempted to have the work done by a shop, but that means $$$

So, what if I entertain the thought of doing the repair myself? I've changed the axle seals on my Jeep, but I don't know anything about working on Zero Turns and I haven't found too much on youtube. Has anyone had similar problems and might such a leak be indicative of worse problems with transmission? Have any of you had to change your seals and, if so, do you have any pointers? Can anybody direct me to a good resource for how-to's on replacing seals?

The shafts get rusty & eat out the seals.
Unlike your Jeep the unit has to be KLEEN with a capital K
I blow then down, degrease then soda blast then pressure wash
The repairs are done in the shower cubicle with the walls & floor wetted down and the job get covered with a damp shop towel when I am not working on it.
You can not over do the cleaning

Great info - thank you so much for taking the time to respond!!
And, please forgive me for asking more questions ... but I am nervous about taking this thing apart without a manual, diagram, or something. How does the rest of the process compare to a Jeep? I mean, does the shaft come out of the transmission? Are there any resources online or anything that would give me some guidance about the order of disassembly/assembly, or about the gotchas etc.?
